I actually feel sorry for Bairstow. His confidence is shot to bits, and it’s also affecting the way he’s batting, could see it first innings at Lord’s. All the more reason to let him just bat ffs. He was one of the form players in the world last year without the gloves.

This stubborn refusal to pick the best keeper, who’s also a decent bat in his own right, is going a long way to crueling hem.
