Just my regular reminder that McCullum did two dodgy run outs. Both against batting powerhouses - namely Muralitharan but also Chris Mpofu. I hated it then as I hate this now.
which is why this whole brouhaha is such a joke when it comes to carey's situation - he didn't do any of that. can see why had he done something like that it would be fair to argue about sportsmanship etc, because that would be exploiting the grey area. but no such ambiguity here!People are incredibly ingenious/sneaky when they put their minds to exploiting some little grey area. Dummy the throw, or get first slip to move in front of the keeper before taking the ball so they can plausibly claim the ball is still in play, or station a very straight silly mid-on and throw the ball back to the bowler via them so as to claim the same thing. I'm sure Stuart Broad is furiously working up plans right now.
Though the most likely thing is that nothing really changes and it's all just chalked up to history after many pages of ink and computer electrons have been spilled.
one might even say that's why such a big deal is being made of it. Something to blameIt’s diverting attention
McGrath overreacted to the Starc catch a bit for sure but otherwise what's the issue? Why would he be "worried" with Bairstow's dismissal which was simply out?Five quick hits — Bairstow's stumping against the 'spirit of the game' and Khawaja confronts Lord's members
The final day of the second Ashes Test at Lord's is filled with drama thanks to Ben Stokes, a rarely seen stumping of Jonny Bairstow and "disappointing" abuse from the Lord's members. Here are five big moments from a dramatic finale.www.abc.net.au
Interesting in the ABC video on this, watching Glenn McGrath who couldn't have possibly have poured more outrage into the Starc non-catch, leaning back nonchalantly and almost laughing dismissively through the Bairstow one, not caring a jot. I love Glenn McGrath but that is feeble. Such a big opinion when it's his side harmed, but not at all worried or interested in analysing when they benefit. Lame.
That's the argument with situations like that and for a long time with the 'Mankad'. Although, in the Mankad situation the batter is trying to get an unfair advantage by getting a head start so there's less justification for a warning than in this scenario.Do you think Australia should have given Bairstow a warning? and then attempted the stumping?
Tbf to the English top order, they didn't really do that much wrong in the 2nd dig. Crawley got strangled which sucks but happens from time to time. The rest got a serious of absolutely brilliant deliveries from Starc and Cummins. This scoreline flatters Australia but England haven't played the big moments well enough. Strauss absolutely nailed it when we said England haven't kept Australia down when they had the chances in both tests. The brutal truth is there was too much pressure on Duckett & Stokes in that case, blame is firmly with the clowns for reducing us to 45-4.
Regarding the Bairstow dismissal he was dozy and within the laws it's out, however didn't feel it was within the spirit of the game
This is utter garbage and just represents exactly what is wrong with cricket!! It's elitist bollocks mate and is probably a large part of why working class kids in Eng have little to no interest in the game.I get this view. But the spirit of the game is what differentiates cricket from other sport. Yeah, I get ultimately it's all about the winning, but cricket played in the right way - for me - is far superior than the bollocks from Carey today. And I'll happily be accused of being a dinosaur for holding this view. I can't abide football for all the underhand nonsense that goes on within the 'laws' of that particular sport. It's ugly.

Spirit of cricket be ****ed.....its a highly competitive sport like many others......the stakes are high, players careers and reputations are defined by performance and results. It hate with a passion the term "spirit of cricket"......its mythical rubbish and always has been back to the days of WG Grace replacing the bails!!
Absolutely nothing wrong at all with YJB wicket......nothing wrong with Broad coming out with the ****s and stirring up the crowd.......was terrific theatre. Absolutely everything wrong with those ****s in the long room abusing the Aussies walking back in........but what can you expect from that revolting class of self righteous ****s.
It was as good an attempt as I expected.
C’mon mateI see some Aussies here are defending it. I guess I’d be doing the same if the roles were reversed, but deep down I’d know that it’s the wrong way to play the game.
It also pisses me off that he made a point of apologising to Murali and Sanga years later when it was brought up but was quite happy to bury the Mpofu incident at the time, making no mention of it even though it was exactly the same thing.Just my regular reminder that McCullum did two dodgy run outs. Cummins said that that whole plan came about from that little conference between him, Smith, Warner and Khawaja about 45 mins post lunch. Next over Green bowled that maiden and it was either hammered in at the ribs or wide yorkers, it was clearly a complete change of plan. It was smart cricket imo, which was a very welcome change after the mindlessness of the previous hourI think Aus finally cottoned onto something after lunch when they went slower, fuller and wider of off stump to Stokes. Took them long enough though. And definitely over did the bouncers to Duckett early on. Can understand it once he's in, but he seriously looks a massive candidate to nick off to gully. Bowl it there ffs.

You can see he's in the crease in that clip.I think he was out of his crease a fair amount in his innings so probably not
