*Official* Women's Ashes 2023

It was a test match, you need to play well for 5 days to win. The Poms could not play well for the whole match and it was not close in the end. Australia just proved they are the better team.

I would say it might've been closer had England won the toss, but Knight said she'd have bowled anyway (**** knows why) so that's a moot point. The wicket definitely offered more to Gardner as the game wore on, some were keeping horribly low today.

England have 3 or 4 superb players, but not the all round strength of the Aussies.

Yeah depth the real difference. England's best is every bit as good as Australia's best but the difference in 6-11 is just too big, there's just no drop off in quality as you go down the Australian side.
I think that's the case with a number of the women's teams. I don't think our stars are really that much better than the stars of everyone else, we just have far more of them.

Ash Gardner, what a freak.

There's clearly a gap between the teams, but not so big that England couldn't bridge it in a one off test.

But to do so, I felt we'd have to field exceptionally well and have the run of the ball.

And neither of those things happened.

I think you could argue that Australia had 3 or 4 passengers in this match (Brown, King, Litchfield, Jonassen had quiet games). But England pretty much rely on NSB, Knight, Ecclestone and on this occasion Beaumont came to the party. If they fail, as they did in the 2nd innings batting notably, you never feel like anyone else will step up to help out. I really feel like they should be looking for alternatives to Dunkley and Jones at the mo.

One item of note (and it maybe down to the wicket), neither team seems to have outstanding seamers at the mo, although Filer did at least show some promise on debut.

Just seen it confirmed that this was indeed the first time in Test Cricket that a team has lost with a double centurion and 10fer. It's only happened 5 times in FC Cricket either (over 60,000 matches).

Superb from Gardner!

I think this was quite an even game despite the result. England looked on top at times but the Aussies never gave in and swung the game in their favour. I think they need one more specialist bat in there to balance the side but got the win anyway.

Another thumping handed out by Australia to England this northern summer. Really looking like both the men’s and women’s teams will go through their tours undefeated.
Pride comes before a fall. After a 2 wicket win, you feel the series is won? The Aussie women may go undefeated , id agree with that

I thought it was won before a ball was bowled. Nothing I saw in the first test has caused me to rethink that prediction

Fair dues. All to be seen.
To be fair to @Burgey mate, he hasn't gone down the predictable Glenn McGrath route of a whitewash, he does think we will draw one test.

Mind you, that's not because we're any good but because our weather is so shite, one test is bound to be rained off.😆

The upside for us is that as long as we don't get beat 4 nil or worse, we'll be able to claim a moral victory. 😆

Yeah Australia's fast bowling has been a bit suspect for a while. Jonassen, King and now Gardner have really covered up for the failings there, but it's clearly the weak link in the side.
