*Official* Women's Ashes 2023

To be fair that's the difference between a normal, standard batting lineup and the monster of a lower order the Australians have rolled out.
It's been the same with the bowlers too. It may have taken Healy a while to work out which were her wicket takers, but in the end she found those who could do the job for her.

If Australia do win, it'll be interesting to see who gets POTM. Ecclestone is the standout to me at the mo, although Gardener could yet match that.

If you're just talking about his keeping, he was outstanding but keepers have to bat as well, and he averaged late 20's which is pretty average nowadays.

Back in the day we had Bob Taylor, probably the best keeper I've seen, but his batting was very limited. He only got into the test side when Knotty was banned for going to South Africa.
Healy's batting was fine for a keeper in the era he played in. Second to Gilchrist as an AT Aus keeper-batsman. Knott averaged 32, and you're holding him up as an example of a fine keeper-batsman. Come on.

Fair point.

On reflection, my initial post on Healy was harsh, I must have been feeling particularly ante Aussies 😆 when I posted it.

Healy was an excellent keeper and at the time averaging 27, whilst not great, was acceptable.

I've referred my original post to DRS and they've overturned the decision. 🤝

Worth pointing out that if Australia win today, then England will need to win 5 of the 6 limited overs matches to win the Ashes. It could be retained after just 2 T20's.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to play the Test last? People could lose interest in this series very quickly.

It's a good point.

There's also been some discussion about the points allocated to the test compared to the white ball games.

Should it be worth more points - I say yes but given that at the moment, the women's game is predominantly a white ball one, should a format that is hardly played be so fundamental in deciding the series outcome.

There's been a lot of dubious LBW decisions in this game IIRC, I think three or four got overturned in the English 1st innings alone. These umpires seem very trigger-happy.

EDIT: Having now seen the Lamb decision yeah that just shouldn't be given out IMO. Really unlucky.
The lamb and Knight decisions were correct tho

Both were marginal, the Lamb decision was barely hitting the stumps. There's no way an umpire should be giving that out.

To have 2 marginal decisions go against you at such a crucial time is unlucky.

The Lamb one just looked all wrong IMO, delivered from quite a wide angle and then it goes off towards midwicket when hit fairly straight.

The other one looked stone dead though, no qualms with that.
