*Official* World Test Championship Final at The Oval – June 7–11, 2023

How is 25 wickets in 21 Tests excellent?

Green has potential but seems so overrated on here as a bowler. The next Shane Watson at best?

Green, 21Tests, 972 runs @ 36.00, one hundred, 25 wkts @ 33.84

Watson, 21Tests, 1429 runs @ 39.69, two hundreds, 38 wkts @ 28.23
i don't think green will be an all rounder for too long. not sure if his body can take it as he gets older. should just focus on being a batsman and he will easily be the best in the world until he retires and be a replacement for smith when he retires

For the good of Australia, as well as working on his batting Green needs to learn how to be effective with the ball in Asia (averages 98 there). That will allow them to play 2 quicks, Green, Murphy (?) plus one more spinner (or quick, Green, + 3 spinners)

He won't be close to the best in the world at batting until he learns how to turn over the strike better. He's a bit too block blash.

Nonetheless I expect him to have a big Ashes.

That’s so misleading

Whatever it takes!!!
Its not just about stats with Green though. Its a bit of a Sobers effect. He bowls good overs that keeps batsmen honest and lets the main quicks rotate or return fresher which is just as vital. He also lets Lyon attack a bit more as with only 4 bowlers, Lyon may take the "keep down the runs route" as a default.

Those Watson stats are pretty remarkable. If he could have kept those up he would legit have been one of the top few all-rounders of all time
Tbf I think Watson took until he was a lot older to play 21 tests than Green, and had the benefit of LO games at international level for experience. He’d have been a lot more across his game after 20 odd tests than a kid like Green is.

Difference is that watson had 3 years to figure out his game between his first 3 test's and his fourth, and was 24/25 when he made his test debut, and 27/28 when he came back to the side after his first few tests. Green's only 24 now and has had to figure out his bowling in international cricket. When he made his test debut he had just came back to bowling after an 18 month stint as a specialist bat and he's not had a stint where he's gone back to FC to balance that workload since.

Don't see how you can compare them at that point given the different stages of their career. Also, watson wasn't a bad test allrounder to begin with, and his stats at that point are exceptional, no? Just on watson as a test cricketer, for a second

Watson: 3700 test runs @35, 75 wickets @33

Stokes: 6000 runs @36, 194 wickets @32

Flintoff: 3850 runs @ 32, 226 wickets @33.

Watson is no botham/greig, but his numbers are fairly close to flintoff/stokes who i'de say are generally perceived as being better than he was. Only issue is watson's lower WPM.

The bug downside for Watto in those comparisons, and it’s a massive one obviously, is the sheer lack of bowling he did cf the other blokes. Not his fault and couldn’t be helped, but kind of makes the comparison a bit lop sided

With rahane making runs again could they give him the captaincy again? Rohit just doesn't impress in that regard.

He more than vindicated his selection didn’t he? I know Cunmins got him off a no ball first innings but he really batted well I thought.

Yeah he was superb. That little pick up pull shot he played for 6 to get his 50 in the first innings was awesome.

The problem is that his whole game is so much more suited to these conditions than those he'd get back home. There's nothing to suggest he'd still be much more than a walking wicket on the slow turners he'd be playing half his games on
