*Official* World Test Championship Final at The Oval – June 7–11, 2023

Australia has been fined 80% and India 100% of their match fees for slow over rates. Maybe a bit less milling around is in order next time.

Gill fined 15% on top of that (not sure how that works) for his social media posts, which IMO is very light.
Over rates is a bit of a pet hate of mine - they are getting lower and lower in test matches and even with a half an hour's extra play, teams always fall short.

Compare that to over rates in the County Championship. I know there's no DRS but everything else is the same.

It's all to do with player urgency. It's noticeable when you attend a county game how much quicker players move between the overs. There's also far less disruptions from players changing gloves every 5 minutes etc. Captains don't micro manage their bowlers and consult with them evertime a batsmen hits a boundary.

We have a simple choice. Either except slow over rates in tests - and soon enough it'll be around 11 to 12 overs an hour or deduct runs from teams based on an agreed formula.

The umpires need to take charge
They’ve delegated most of their responsibilities off field anyway

Steady on mate - surely you're not suggesting that all the Aussie players knew that the naughty little scamp 'Davey Warner' was taking sandpaper on to the field to alter the state of the ball.

And when the TV producers cottoned on to that, he suggested that perhaps Cameron Bankcroft should take on the role, without a hint of a senior more powerful player, intimidating and bullying a more junior team mate.

I mean how could the bowlers know that the unusual looking marks on the ball weren't due to natural wear and tear due to hard outfields.

Next you'll be saying that fair dinkum, good bloke, Aussie coach Darren Lehman knew.

I mean how could he - he was only the coach and spent countless hours in and around the squad - how's he supposed to know what his players are up to.

I mean what's suspicious about a senior player having more sandpaper in his bag than B&Q have on their shelves.

Shame on you mate.
