This match is long over now. Time to think about the 2nd test XI

1. Handscomb (promoted to opener - need a right hander to open)
2. Khawaja
3. Labushagne
4. Smith(c)
5. Head
6. Carey
7. Agar(in a specialist batter- can bowl a few overs)
8. Starc
9. Murphy
10. Lance Morris
11. Mitch Swepson(purely as a wicket taking option - current bowlers not taking wickets)

Warner's career is over, and Boland wont ever bowl in india again. Cummins rested due to short 3 day turn around.

I see Maxwell is aiming to play for Victoria next Shield game. He’d have been very handy in this squad tstl
Was hoping to play Shield before the BBL break before he smashed his leg. Sadly not to be.

I would never have remotely considered him for Tests if he wasn't willing to do that, but the fact that he was makes the injury so much more unfortunate

100% agree. glenn maxwell would've churned out a few dozen overs in this game and got atleast a quickfire 30. There is also Hardie, his bowling/batting looks neat to me and was left out of the squad. The selectors have been dire.

Aus are a bowler short, especially when theyre playing two offies and two RFMs whose MO is basically the same (hit the deck on a length). Everyone knows Agar isn’t much chop but he really should have played here at seven and Carey at six with one of Renshaw or Handscomb missing out (given they were never dropping Warner like they should have).
not to get on my soapbox about warner again because it is tiring to read i accept that, but this is really the long and short of a huge amount of the problems.

part of why england sucked for so long is that they'd always be 1-10, which made the margin of error for other batsmen that much smaller. as long as warner's in the team in moving ball conditions we're playing with one hand tied behind our backs imho

Look at this bandwagoner over here
if i was kommisar for a day the team would be probably

Head
Khawaja
Marnus
Smith
Renshaw
Green
Carey
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Murphmentum

it will not be that

thus my more "pragmatic" hoped team is the scg team minus hazlewood and agar for starc and the murph; zampa is my third spinner i would take, after lyon and murphy second, but we already know agar is touring and i fear swepson will be their third pick. we won't get a team close to that which i would pick lol
ahem

Sorry, I instantly disregarded that post the very split second I saw Zampa's name in it

As everyone should
tbf i couldve named bryce mcgain as the third spinner, wouldn't matter given MURPHMENTUM now has the second spinner position on lock and offspiners never get injured on account of the physical toll on the body is simply nil

I would genuinely pick Bryce McGain over Zampa right to this very day

Drag him out of the commentary box for the VIC v QLD Shield game and fly him to India, can't possibly be worse

Then again, a literal plank of wood would do a better job than Zampa imo

Really? Did McGain even do much domestically? Never got why we hyped up all these spinners as the next Warne when they all averaged like 35 and up with the ball in the shield
