*Official* Australia in India 2023

Gotta face facts: Australia haven't played that badly but India are simply too good at home for any team not dominating from the get go.

Don't see Australia recovering but its crucial for at least a couple of them to score some 50+ scores and show that the spinners can be negotiated.

Australia are cooked IMO. Seen this exact situation before in Sri-Lanka. We put a slightly below par total up in the first innings, then lose the plot after an umpiring call doesn't go our way and end up dropping catches, letting the opposition get a significant lead before where blown out and lose by an innings.

Lance Morris and Starc for the next test if fit. Hazlewood alternatively. really need to blast out these lower order batters with pace and reverse swing. Look at Dale Steyn - average around 20 in india. Ditto Mcgrath, averages around 20 in india. great bowlers that can swing the ball.

Cummins and Boland to be dropped only 1 wicket between them in over a days play.
Has there ever been a poster banned from CW on stupidly grounds?

I get the same vibes as you. It's why I don't feel this bowling attack is anywhere near Waugh and Ponting's teams, even though the bowlers seem closely comparable (regular attack, rather than this particular match). This team feels fragile when attacked.

Think the difference between this AUS attack and the peak AUS attack is a spinner of warne's quality. Starc-Cummins-Hazlewood is on the same level as Mcgrath-lee-Gillespie (Starc being better than lee is a huge part of that) but lyon just isn't in the same ballpark as warne.

For Australia to compete in this series 2 things had to happen.
1. The batting couldn't be totally reliant on Smith and Labushchagne
2. The 2nd spinner had to contribute

The big plus is obviously Murphy who has been outstanding and all things being equal he should continue to contribute throughout the series.

Which brings us to the batting - Smith and Labuschagne will continue to score runs but the key will be can the other batters score enough runs.

This test looks done and dusted but there are some positives for the Aussies - but unless other batsmen find a way to score more runs, it'll be 1 way traffic as India at home are an extremely strong side.

Khawaja should make runs and green is reliable once he comes back, same with carey. Reckon we should have enough runs to be competitive if smith and marnus have good series and those guys perform to par.

I think it is very hard to put anyone on par with McGrath. I get that we're aggregating but he really was special. Cummins stats are similar but I think McGrath was still a superior bowler. Just unstoppable.

Cummins not as big a prick as Pigeon definitely.

Pant v Murphy would've been so good. Young man may have caught some stick but would surely not back away from the fight. Has a good head.
