*Official* Australia in India 2023

Could be the difference between a 150 run lead and a 200 run lead..

Smith is lucky that his drop off Rohit cost his team zero runs. But he might not be lucky again if these two get another 40+ runs

Dont know if Aus can count themselves "unlucky" since they got 2 leg side dismissals before this and they've clearly let India run away here with drops, but worth talking about anyway IMO.

Aus and Ind where at similar points 5 down with 50 odd stands in place and had very different endings. Carey reverse swept an Ashwin half volley, got a good chunk of bat on it and somehow got it into his stumps, while Murphy had that Jadeja LBW that was given not out when he was on 30 odd that was centimetres from being out on review. Think those two points are gonna end up being the key difference here.

Actually think Morris will go well if he dayboo's. That skiddy trajectory could really cause some problems, and he might be effective at mopping up the lower order

It gets stupid magnified in India but it's one of the things that make any away series difficult, most lower order players are still somewhat competent batsman at home while the away team struggles to patch together 25 runs from their last 4.
Yeah. Bresnan and Broad hitting centuries, Anderson hitting 81 from 11 ?

Starc’s a better bowler the past 12 months or so. Probably as consistently good as he’s ever bowled in tests tbh. Slightly different MO and bowling a tighter length.

He’d have played for sure if he was fit, especially given his batting is decent at 8 or 9.
Yes but he's not a better test bowler than Cummins, I'd say he could outbowl him over a spell or two each game but during the course of the series Cummins would still be generally ahead. Also Cummins usually has much better control, the captaincy's getting to him! If they don't win the next test 4-zip is a real possibility.

Lance Morris and Starc for the next test if fit. Hazlewood alternatively. really need to blast out these lower order batters with pace and reverse swing. Look at Dale Steyn - average around 20 in india. Ditto Mcgrath, averages around 20 in india. great bowlers that can swing the ball.

Cummins and Boland to be dropped only 1 wicket between them in over a days play.

There's something oddly comforting that in a world of constant change and upheaval, the Australian cricket team can still always be relied on to get absolutely rinsed in India.
Tbf they are the only team since England won in 2012 to look even remotely competent in India. The 17/18 series was closely fought.

I don’t really think we’ve done all that badly, but we haven’t taken the key moments well. And look like losing by an innings. Rough game.

I don’t recall suggesting he would replace Cummins, who bowled badly yesterday but was fine today.

He’s taken 51 wickets at 21 in 14 tests since he became captain ffs. I’d like to be effected by something like that.

The key difference between playing in India & Oz is the pace off the pitch & of course bounce! This is why Oz generally wins so many games at home, they can blast off opposition batters with sheer pace conversely in India that pace gets neutered almost completely because of the pitch. Hence more draws, & less losses, by India at home. Talking about tests overall not just series.
