Adorable Asshole

International Regular
Hammond easily. Far better average in Aus against full strength attacks than Sunny, who batted on feather beds at home his entire career.
lol the entirety of 30s and 40s were feather beds.

Hammond was a classical minnow basher averaging 79 against India, 113 against NZ and 62 @ SA.

Meanwhile his average against WI is 35.5

Hammond's record vs the WI is better than Gavaskar's against anything approaching a full strength Australian attack. He made a lot of wanker runs against WSC and SA rebel tour depleted teams here, which is somehow conveniently overlooked in rating him by a ton of people. Lillee could get him out with a tomato. He was obviously a great player but if you want to contextualize Hammond's average by saying he was a minnow basher, then have a look beyond Sunny's headline numbers too.

Hammond was a great player. Went on too long post war, sadly.

Two of the best ever that were both notoriously good at cashing in when the runs available were relatively ‘soft’. Voted for Hammond. Big enough gap between averages if he never played again in his 40s after the War imo to compensate Gavaskar having the tougher era.

30s and 40s have among the highest averaging cricketing decade.

Sticky wickets only came into play when it rained. So not much often
You ever been to England in the summer? I love that you’re actually arguing that uncovered pitches > easier to bat on than covered pitches. The averages are also clearly inflated by Bradman who was a massive outlier.

Also fun fact, a comparison of batting averages throughout Hammond’s and Gavaskar’s career.

Is Sunny a racist? Do you have any evidence to support this claim of yours?
