*Official* England in West Indies 2022

I don't know. He'll face Roach/Gabriel/Holder/Joseph. That's a decent bowling attack. No reason to suggest he'll suddenly pick up form.
Will be Roach, Gabriel, Seales and Holder. Seales is a massive upgrade on Joseph tbh, he's a ridiculous talent. I expect us to bowl England out cheaply. Unfortunately I expect the same to happen to us, regardless of Broad and Anderson's absence.

Antigua pitch will likely be flat, at least that has been the case so far.

Barbados is harder to predict, it has been flat one year, a seamers paradise the next, and then span. So who knows.

Grenada is usually good for both seamers and spinners, a decent wicket for cricket. Root scored a big hundred back in 2015.

Classic blaming the bowlers for the batsmens failings here. Anderson/Broad/Robinson with cameos from others is all bar two aces they have.

I've seen speculation it's because of B&A's undermining of Root, but can't help but feel 'England selection logic' is a major factor.

Don't despise Broad as much as some do, I think a lot of his public persona is just giving as good as he gets and playing up to his reputation, and it's not like he chickens out of a fight or runs away to avoid challenges. And let's be frank a lot of what he has said about the Ashes is true. But I do think he was angling for the captaincy.

Agnew commenting that there's "nothing to learn" by taking Broad and Anderson. Fairly odd reasoning. There's nothing to learn by taking Joe Root either, but you should just take your best players and try to win matches.
It's just pure drivel, obviously Agnew already thinking that picking for the next Ashes is the only important thing. Vaughan thinks dropping them is a good idea too, so it must be ****ing nonsense.

Stokes Woakes and Foakes can happen again.

Two Ollie, a Leach and a Crawley, there are quite a few Lees.

Two sons and a ton can play together.

And then we have the nature guys Root Wood Fish Leach Park etc.

Interesting to see which combinations will turn out in the tests.

“In respect of James Anderson and Stuart Broad, I want to emphasise this does not mean the end for them as England players. We feel that it is important to look at some exciting new bowling potential and give some added responsibility to other players who have featured previously. No one doubts the quality and experience that James and Stuart bring to the England set-up. It will be up to the new managing director and permanent head coach to decide on whether they will be involved this summer and beyond.”

From Strauss.

They’ll be back to roll us in that one off Test.

See that kinda makes sense, hopefully means Overton and others get a run now, and if they can't do it, it's **** or get off the pot. Pointless Leach, Lawrence, Overton, Mahmood being constantly in the squads if they're never going to be trusted.

Yet again though I don't like this series being used as a dress rehearsal for anything, we've only one it once in my lifetime I think, or something almost as ridiculous as that. Oh and deciding for fresh blood, but then keeping Woakes with his appalling away record, well that makes little sense. Robinson is interesting, I mean on one hand it could be considered a reward for his lack of professionalism in not being fit, but hopefully it's him being told he has to play every match and he better sort himself out.

Is it really a dress rehearsal though? I mean for the likes of Leach/Lawrence/Foakes/Mahmood/Woakes they get the chance to really stake a claim for a spot in the Test side. You do have to start somewhere, and better now than what Bracey got for his debut.

Yeah it shows a totally backwards approach to cricket in that it implies you play Tests to build a good side.

No, you build a good side so you can win Tests. Having a better side is pointless if it's not winning more series.

I'd like to blame a sickly preoccupation with the Ashes but it's probably even shallower than that.

I was quite surprised to know that James Taylor is a full time selector now. At an age of 32, is he the youngest selector ever?
He with Root, Silverwood and Bobat selected the team for the 1st Ashes Test. Was in England at the time. Made sure his best friend Woakes played.

It could be argued that in an alternative universe Taylor himself could have been batting in the middle order for England all this time if not for his heart issues

Not sure if he would have quite made it as a test standard batsman, but he had a lot more going for him than some of the muppets picked since

Honestly don't think dropping Broad and Anderson is that bad really, they've not been great in a good era for pace bowling on the whole.
