Interesting squad, surprised Fisher is in as he can hardly play back to back games. Glad we have dropped Buttler and Burns. Won't even try to pick a team out of that side as I have no clue what Collingwood/Root are thinking though I imagine Root, Stokes and Bairstow are nailed on and Crawley opens with Lees. The rest is pot luck.

drop your greatest modern seamer who is still your best bowler but leave in statistically the worst seamer to ever play test match cricket abroad for England

Malan gone too. Not especially unlucky, but I didn't see that coming. That's the entire top 3 from the start of the previous series dropped, which can't have happened too often.

And said entire top 3 have been replaced by ...just Alex Lees.

I'd say it's tough for any one player to match the contribution of 3. But in this case it seems kinda achievable.

I understand you want to make a statement after the Ashes but this is really dumb. England overestimated the WI before and got thrashed. They'll get thrashed again here.

I know Fisher made his YCCC dayboo several years ago at 15yo but 21 FC games at an OK average doesn't bode that well. To say this is a curveball is an understatement. Was anyone remotely suggesting he'd get picked? Does he have pace? Because if he's an early 80s 'speed' merchant, I can tell you two guys with real pedigree you could've picked.

He was in the lions this winter, and he's always someone i've seen as someone who could play for England. Tall, good pace, away swing mainly. His injury record isn't great and he will need to get fitter to make sure his speed endurance across a spell and day is good, but as we've seen with county cricket in the past if you get stuck there for too long, especially as a fast medium bowler, you tend to get injured and/or become a medium fast bowler.

Bold. I like it

Fisher's a good selection. Had big wraps on him for years but sadly always injured. Hopefully he's bulked up and his body can potentially handle the rigours of test cricket

Pope, Robinson and Woakes lucky.
Broad and Anderson unlucky.
COverton and Lawrence in the ashes squad but weren't deemed good enough to get picked in a team losing 4-0, and then still picked for the next tour, as is the way. Fwiw I think that was inevitable (especially in Lawrence's case), just funny, you're almost better of not getting selected in a tour like that.

Hope to see Mahmood or Fisher play at some point.

Not really because Bess has been dropped too, presumably for carrying the drinks wrong or summat, but different selectors different choices, so fair enough.

I've not seen much of Fisher, is he meant to be fast? we only have one out and out quick and he's pretty injury prone.

He's honestly not that much of a curveball. Good pace, swings it away and can be pretty hostile. It's his fitness which has been the reason he's not been included in a squad thus far - got really good skills

He clocks mid to late 80s pretty consistently. Pretty fluent run up and repeatable action from memory. Think he could go well

Dropping the big two and retain Woakes is just disgraceful. Anderson turned out way better figures despite missing the two best pitches. Both of Saqib and Fisher better get a match, but what's a bet they go in with something like Robinson-Wood-Woakes.

I don't know. He'll face Roach/Gabriel/Holder/Joseph. That's a decent bowling attack. No reason to suggest he'll suddenly pick up form.
Yeah they owned England hard last time but Pope has to at least start looking test standard when spin is likely to not be a factor at the very least. Loads depending on him.

Pope is the one batsmen who disappoints me as he clearly has a lot of talent and a high ceiling. He could be a mid-high 40s Test bat. I'm quite amazed really he'd kept his spot here as his Ashes experience was brutal.
