This disrespect and Ashes fixation ought to bring England more humiliation and misery. It's a ****ing test series you *****. You've lost to NZ B and India at home and then get absolutely dicked in the contest you've been supposedly prepping for for years. The last time you played in West Indies their bowling all rounder made a double ton.

Got to say that I think this is the right decision for the long-term. I'm usually a big proponent of 'play your best XI in every test' but feel there are mitigating circumstances here. You have two (undoubtedly class) bowlers who are at the twilight of their career and quite injury-prone.

I see the parallels with when Warne and McGrath were approaching the end, and have absolutely no doubts that Ponting or the chairman of selectors at the time would not rest them. But still, they did have Lee and Clark to take over and guide and mentor the next generation of bowlers who were shortly debuting like Johnson, Siddle and Hilfenhaus.

I don't see quite this with England (bar Woakes)

They're both still ranked in the top dozen of the ICC ranking of bowlers.
That's fair, though I was focusing more on the wicket taking abilities of both bowlers. England really need someone who can take early wickets and these two haven't been doing that consistently without some assistance from conditions. They won't be say Pat Cummins, but if these two are England's spearheads/main options, then they're falling short compared to other pace bowlers who've been striking more frequently in more varied conditions. Basically I think they've become more along the lines of secondary options, especially overseas. Great at keeping things tight, but they're not really guaranteed to blow games apart with their bowling unless it's favouring swing/seam a lot.
