Is Ashwin an ATG spinner / player?

I disagree, considering you've not exactly been some sort of omniscient judge of cricketers. Especially if by past posts you're basically going on Bradman's feelings for rankings.
Again,my top 6 was exactly same with the post ankitj posted .I personally go for laker ahead of grimmett and O’Reilly at 1.O’rilley and grimmett had age difference of 13 years. They did play lot of cricket together but they weren’t exact contemporaries,in fact they played just for 4 years together but O’Reilly was 33 when World War II broke out,O’Reilly and grimmett were more like sachin-kohli just that O’Reilly career had war when he was 33 so he didn’t get to play 45 odd test matches.
Laker made his debut after O’Reilly had retired. So they were 3 different generation.
So the top 5 (in no particular order)
O’Reilly, warne,Murali, laker, grimmett is what it should be even without consideration of any bias for anyone.

Neither you nor ankit's copy of a random bunch of opinions is something to take as an unbiased collection of ATGs through vague unknown criteria. All you've said here is that you think old spinners are ATGs. If there's anything more than "O'Reilly/Grimmett/Laker are ATGs so Ashwin can't be one" I'd like to hear it.

I did put my ATGs and I only put O’Reilly from the three you mentioned.I don’t think grimmett and laker are ATGs either.

None of this really addresses the thread's premise, and you've just said Ashwin can't be one because these guys are.
I didn’t put any of grimmett and laker as ATGs but they are ahead of ashwin a spinner as of now.He is a top 10 you can argue him to be no.6,but that overseas stats has to come down for him to be strong contender as a top 5 as a spinner and just little bit to be a ATG as a player ,averaging bit less than 30 would be enough,to be a ATG as a spinner which would make my top 4,he needs to do well for some years overseas.

We are not considering the 9 MoS in 33 series are we?

And who averages 21 or lesser at home as a spinner over 10 years, please do name.

The figures speak for themselves. Surely you can statsguru your way through Man of the Series awards and Series results?
Murali averages 19 as a spinner at home with far more man of the match awards. And that is purely as a spinner, not an allrounder like Ashwin.

Lets see what Ashwin does in South Africa since Jadeja is injured,if he does well there I will rate him as an ATG.
On the flipside, if Ashwin fails to make an impact against arguably the weakest SA lineup India faced away since readmission, it should be enough to show that he is not an ATG.

Whatever it takes!!!

I see you are lining up your excuses already.

And I am talking about winning series as well as matches, which is why I said man of the series awards. And now, suddenly Ashwin is an allroudner, huh?

You used the term 'matchwinner' and you are ignoring man of the match awards? Why not mention those numbers?

And how many of those series did Ashwin contribute with the bat as well?

Coz Ashwin plays with Jadeja and Murali played with Vaas. And sustained impact over a series is what I am going for, whether you wanna acknowledge reality or not.

I think its pretty obvious that Ashwin is an ATG cricketer who can be an ATG bowler with a good series or two in SENA in upcoming years. I am done wasting my time with statsgurushakerz coz quite honestly, anyone who thinks a ball tampering home umpire bully is an ATG is beneath any real cricketing discussion. Cry on and we will keep rubbing salt into your wounds, saltshakerz.

Murali played with Aravinda, Jayasuriya, Sangakkara, Mahela and Dilshan too. Players who can single handedly affect the results of the matches. Current Indian team is excellent as a team. but it is difficult to go beyond SL of late 90s and 2000s, where a one of the main players play a blinder and change the result of the match. If you see DoG's ratings you will find SL test batsmen have provided some of the ridiculously special innings in history of cricket.
