It doesnt have to be a fifer. But there is a difference between being the prime matchwinner and a support bowler. I dont count 3fers normally as matchwinning performances with some exceptions.

If you go by wkts and improved performance using filters what about jimmy Anderson since the start of 2014 he has taken 292 wkts at 21.9 and 102 wkts overseas at 24.3,I will say jimmy has a far better claim of being ATG than ashwin at this stage.

Philander has only 224 Test wickets. Not remotely comparable to Ashwin.

You are evading the point. If you want to consider Ashwin an ATG based on exceptional home performance, would you do the same for Philander had he enough wickets?

Well then we are more or less agreed. I said that if Ashwin can end up with a good record in a couple of SENA countries he has a decent case to be an ATG.

He can be a proper ATG bowler if he has a good series or two in the upcoming SENA tours. No one here has said anything else. You just wanna show off your statsguru degree for some reason though.

Yes. Ashwin is now better than Kapil Dev as allrounder imo.

I've got news for you. Not even the ones in favour of Ashwin here are claiming that he is an ATG bowler.

Him not having fifers in SENA is a fact. And yeah, I watched India's series in SA and England that I referred to before, as well as India in Australia and against NZ this year. I have seen Ashwin bowl and I have seen his improvement. But he still has those holes in his record to fill. I was only responding to earlier posters trying to defend him as an ATG bowler based solely on his current record.

Yep,no one calls jimmy an atg after doing well in overseas in 7 years so how can ashwin be a atg after doing well overseas in 1.5 year till now or even if he does well in next 4 years

Because Ashwin is a spinner and Anderson is a fast bowler.

Ashwin is a definite top 10 spinner. Anderson is definitely not top 20 pacer.
