The thing is they dont want him to feel the pressure of playing as a proper batsman, I guess. And it is fine.

You do have to protect him a little. Still primarily a bowler. But yes, ahead of Pant in these conditions for sure.

I really dont think he was poor anytime. Perhaps relatively speaking given the high quality of this contest so far. But he was ordinary with the new ball yesterday, excellent in his subsequent spells without much luck and played a big role in the slow scoring yesterday and bowled well today with the new ball. India's 6-8 are just all positive players who go for their shots and some of them do come off coz they are good. Won't be blaming Southee too much. If anything, Boult has been poorer even though he got the better batsman out.
