I really dont think he was poor anytime. Perhaps relatively speaking given the high quality of this contest so far. But he was ordinary with the new ball yesterday, excellent in his subsequent spells without much luck and played a big role in the slow scoring yesterday and bowled well today with the new ball. India's 6-8 are just all positive players who go for their shots and some of them do come off coz they are good. Won't be blaming Southee too much. If anything, Boult has been poorer even though he got the better batsman out.
Yeah Boult was much worse with the new ball and the commentators decided that Southee was too when his economy was bad after a lot of edges

Just saw the Jinx dismissal, he threw it away.

Plenty of loose wickets in this Indian innings, 300 should really be par here. Don't expect the NZ batters to be as generous, nor the Indian slip catching to be as good.

I expect the spinners to be much better tbh, than even some of the seamers were here. Anyways, we will see.

Still think 200-220 is par here.

Boult's best over was when he should have had Jadeja. Otherwise he's been passable but not great. Still better than CdG, who is himself still better than a spinner because spin doesn't exist.

A non catastrophic score still keeps India in the game. Did way better than I expected. Although tbf if NZ had bowled this well yesterday it might well have been a sub 150 score.

Though NZfan made the point that Kw and co regularly bat in these sorts of conditions, they’re also used to batting getting easier as the innings progresses. India more variety in bowling than England too, so they (NZ) have their work cut out IMO.

Is this lunch break shortened? Given the rain and other weather delays, should only have like 15-20 minute breaks.
Comms mentioned a 35 minute lunch while PCs requite a 40 min lunch, so apparently it has been reduced a bit, even tho the PCs don't account for it.

pretty sure they players would tell you to **** off if you asked them to have a 15 minute lunch.

I think the pitch will take turn but the ball getting damp might be an issue

it's better than 36/9 but the Rohit, Gill and Rahane should have all kicked on and converted their starts.

It's tough to bat out there but that's Test cricket. Rather see them get out to good balls than loose shots. We'll need to bowl really well now to keep NZ to around 220/230 as well.

i do, but the saving grace is this deck looks slow and spongy based on the rise of jamieson's deliveries. at hagley oval or the basin last summer those fired through at pace off the deck.

our batsmen are a little dodgy to quick bounce though so slow but bouncy is ok.

This is an important game for CdG’s future in the test side I feel, especially if he’s needed with the bat. I don’t see him being a first choice pick in India and if someone like Ravindra cracks the test side, given NZ’s preference for four frontline seamers at home he won’t make the XI that easily.

Any particular reason why Bhogle isn't commentating? Dont mind it personally cos I can't stand the bloke but hope it has nothing to do with the Covid situation in India
