They also have Asif, Ngidi, and Hazlewood as fast bowling back up, for whatever reason. We still dont have a guy who can replace Raina at 3 when needed. And Bravo and Curran are waaaay too crucial for us as allrounders as we have no back up to them. It will be interesting to see whom we pick for the remaining 3 slots. I expect Ankit Rajpoot to be one of them, or at least another Indian fast bowler.

And David malan was avaiable for 1.5Cr!! why not get left-right opening combination of Rutu and Malan..
A good opening stand CSK missed dearly last season and they did nothing about it in this auction..

Could be.. I haven't followed closely karanataka's matches and may be Gowtham won matches for them..
But after TN won Syed Mushtaq trophy recently, I thought CSK will show some interest at least in local talent.. But nothing..
See all the players CSK failed to even try.. Natarajan, Varun Chakravarthy, Sundar(for good part), Vijay shankar..
And Sai kishore simply warmed the bench all season when CSK's spinners were decimated..
Some how it feels like MSD has decided he wont give any chance to local talent any more or something..
Seriously, I just don't get it...

It's just a mini auction and CSK didn't have much of a ourse to begin with.
Pretty sure they'll go for a nice reset next year. I am glad they are promoting likes of Jagadeesan. Coukdvr taken Hari Nishanth. Perhaps might buy him off auction.

Next year will see CSks vision for next decade.

The IPL will start early April right?

If so there will be some slight overlap, especially considering the likely quarantine requirements. He's in the T20 squad too so WA likely will not see very much of him at all

I want to see Jhye as a viable test option again, but if he isn't playing FC cricket that is a major problem indeed. Even Cummins played one Shield game just before he got called up to India

Thought Labuschagne as a 6th bowling option.and capable of being a solid option at 3 or 4 would suit CSK as presume they'll have Jadeja at 7, Bravo 8 and 3 other specialist bowlers so only really need someone who can provide backup to Bravo's bowling. Although point taken on wanting offspin.

He's fairly good IMO, at least battingwise. And his mediums can be fairly decent too. Labu OTOH is downright trash bowler in T20 - you'd know if you'd watched his recent bowling in BBL (I did for the most part, and tbf most of the, ahem, "spinners" bowled trash and got wickets, pretty much became a meme), but batting is pretty good, only if you don't have a consolidator sorta role in your team. I see Pujara's in for CSK (besides Faf, MSD etc), so they're set there, they really. No need for them to go for Marnus IMO.

IPL auctions always seem skewed in favor of egos and hype over any kind of cricketing logic determining who gets paid the big bucks.

Raina and Moeen give us some power hitting in the middle/lower which we desperately needed last edition. Both lefties too. I like the KG pickup as well even if it's a bit of an overpay.

edit: You have Mo opening for us? Just thinking about it, so many of our starts were turgid last season, probably a good idea.

This has been a great auction for us as the likes of Cotterell, Lewis and Darren Bravo will play our 4 day season instead. Really pleased.

Probably already been said, but Maxwell getting paid so much for failing every single season is mind blowing. Oh well.

RCB exhausting all their money on Dan Christian was so typically RCB big brain move. Could have used that money to get a couple of cheap bargain Indian players.

Now they have three overseas pace bowling all rounders and one among those is the 2 million Jamieson. In all likelihood Christian will spend being benched.
