So what I'd like to see for RR is:

Jaiswal, Butler(o), Stokes(o), Sanju(*), Parag, Dube, Tewatia, Morris(o), Archer(o), Tyagi, Markande

3 quicks, 2 spinners, with Stokes/Parag/Dube/Jaiswal all bowling options. Hopefully Sanju keeps but I can see Butler taking the gloves instead to reduce the load on him. Gopal and Unadkat on the bench, can come in for Markande/Tyagi based on conditions/form. Plenty of batting depth.

Don't see The Fizz getting a game unless one of Archer/Morris get injured. Miller on the sidelines too. Would be nice to see Lomror, Carippa or Sakariya get a game at some point too.

If MSD is out there batting, it WILL be test cricket. :p And he will play for the draw.
Lower order hitting in T20s is hard and sometimes I feel like these ageing batsmen who have an attacking game are more suited in the opening role. With the fielders in, they can just attack the bowlers and make the most of their batting.

Cariappa had so much potential, he burst into the scene out of nowhere just like Bumrah, but didn't go anywhere from there. Could have developed himself into a potent T20 bowler like Varun Chakravarthy.

Whatever it takes!!!

Gopal > Markhande IMO.

And they may not need Tyagi given all the other bowling options they have. Do they not have any other Indian spinner? And Sanju should bat 3 and Stokes 4. I feel that Stokes will want to bat 4 too as that is where England use him in T20Is.

KC Cariappa is the other Indian spin option, but as karan says he's kinda faded away a bit. Pure T20 specialist too, hasn't played professional cricket in any other format and is already 26 years old.

Unadkat has evolved into a somewhat useful T20 bowler, and had a decent last IPL, so I can see him starting, but Tyagi's ceiling is obv much higher.

All a much of a muchness in the grand scheme of things tho. Would be a good season if we dont finish last again.

Hope we start the new season with following XI

Padikkal
Azharudden (wk)
Kohli
de Villiers
Maxwell
Christian**
Jamieson
Sundar
Saini
Chahal
Siraj

** Not a big fan of the Christian buy at that price although happy he's finally got an IPL franchise after good form in last couple years - not too many other options in terms of middle order bats though so think this will be our lineup barring injuries or an awful start to IPL 2021.
I still cannot believe that RCB did not pick up a proper batsman given their existing limited options. Hard to see them make the final this year again.

Surprised too thought given Maxwell can bowl spin as a credible 6th bowling option we would focus on a couple of middle order batsman - if Christian gets injured it feels like we would have to restructure the XI. I get that for someone like Russell who at his best and fittest as destructive a batsman who can also bowl 3/4 overs as you'll get. But for a lineup to be seemingly centred around Christian is odd. I get that the thought was probably rely on overseas middle order given the lack of proven domestic options but still think you could maybe have gone in for Kedar and then 2 overseas MOB near base price. Noteworthy too that we were in for Henriques so not even like our side is reliant on a first choice option.

Anyone clued in on Azharudeen know if he could do a job in the middle order? I know he has played as an opener but just trying to wonde if there are other ways we could go about things e.g.

Sundar
Paddikal
Kohli
ABD
Azharuddeen (wk)
Maxwell
Christian
Jamieson
Siraj
Saini
Chahal

At least with Christian at 7 it's easier to then see us replace Christian with Sams. Also means you could add in a domestic batsman as cover if you wanted too. Not a whole host of options but if they were coming in at 7 it would mostly be as a safety blanket and if things were going well both Jamieson and Sams could bat above him. Makes retention of K Richardson and Zampa seem rather odd too. Thought Zampa was odd at the time, thought K Richardson would be a first teamer but seemingly not.

I mean I know Christian has done well in T20 comps for last couple years - happy he has been rewarded with a franchise finally just wish it wasn't ours at above base price lol. Fine as a utility option but not as an option where it's hard to see how our side lines up without him it isn't too promising. Especially considering they wanted Henriques over him seemingly.

a certain banned member thinks Dan Christian is a great purchase due to recent BBL form

I don't rate Christian, the BBL or even the banned member, but figured it's worth tossing that into the conversation
I think Dan Christian will do well, because 50% of the games he plays will be in the Chinnaswamy Stadium which is quite small in size and has a flat wicket with good bounce. And Christian and Maxi can bowl a couple of overs each here and there to provide the team with flexibility. RCB has a great team this season, only think that could have made them even better is a street-smart captain.

Also, it'll be interesting to see how they perform in away games. Their bowling heavily relies on Chahal. Saini and Siraj aren't that great in T20s, Jamieson will definitely make their bowling unit a little stronger.

I dunno what to make of the Pujara thing.

If he wants to play and 100% of Indian cricketers want to play the IPL then cool, but he'd be of more benefit to India playing county cricket.

Its not like he has a chance of ever playing limited overs cricket for India long term.
Yeah how dare he try and make some bucks when everyone else does it.

He can do what he likes of course.

But from an Indian POV its very poor.

He will play initially and obviously fail like he did when he opened for RCB a few years ago. The last thing Chennai needed was a stodgy opener ffs.

Then what? Sit on the bench when he really should be playing in England.

Hopefully Vihari gets a county gig as wasn't picked up in the IPL.

CSK should have gone for Dawid Malan, but they simply failed to see they need an explosive opener..
But Puji can be very effective in spin especially chepauk. Let's see.. If he is successful, I am really happy for him..
He definetely deserves a break and I hope he will make a great opener..
