Pretty sure it was a no-ball but I know what you mean...sometimes I reckon they gloss over the initial contact and focus on the foot planted well over the line

Sorry guys but I reckon many, if not most of us get plenty of sense of success and accomplishment and camaraderie outside of hitting a red ball around a field. The reason you don't might have something to do with the fact that you're not actually doing anything meaningful after your sporting career. You made decent money, both of you. Plenty of opportunity to retrain in a field that would bring loads of accomplishment and camaraderie.

Thought he was just saying that they are currently in a good enough financial position to take the necessary time out and train in something else? Just a practical consideration, nothing to do with it being tied to the sense of achievement.

Yeah but they probably won't get as much emotional satisfaction and a sense of "accomplishment", in their words, out of making a bunch of money running some random business than they were playing Test cricket for their country. That seems to be pretty obviously what both are getting at there, so it seems churlish to critique them for just saying they could make tons of money doing something else.

I hate work too, but even if I loved it, I can't imagine anything beating scoring a test match hundred!

But it was just the individual views of those two, I'm sure there are people out there who would find making some big business deal way more satisfying ... each to their own, I'd have thought.
