Jamieson got himself out there...Richardson actually made a good point that for Abbas to hit the stumps in NZ at his pace, he has to be slightly too full for his natural length and basically bowl a ‘floaty’ ball

Not-that-short version - there is a weird and very distinctive subculture of (with apologies for using
the ‘w’ word) ‘woke boofhead’ culture in NZ sport twitter. Sort of like a whole lot of PC Principal types
from South Park. Basically white guys in their 30s and 40s who embody every toxic masculine archetype but disguise it by trotting out the ‘right’ opinions all the time.

I know some of these guys irl, hyper-aggressive narcissist types, but they say women’s cricket is good on twitter so that makes it ok...

‘Sumo’ is like the patron saint of these guys. Smug know-nothing ****wit but he pronounces names correctly and tweets about feminism so he must be a good bloke.
Haha. I wouldn't have known Stevenson from a bar of soap prior to him becoming a cricket commentator, so I'll take your word for it on him. But the stereotype definitely exists imo, sorts of superficial 'feminists' that annoy my wife. As per the adage that it's always easier to say you support something than it is to actually do it (this goes for everything that sounds good but also costs something in reality, from 'our supply chains are sustainable' to 'yeah our company does AI').

Hey for all I know they might be true believers and I might be a super Nazi bigot racist. The hypocrisy is not the point really, it’s just a personality/content mix I notice a lot.

Yeah this

As Kippax might say, best mate of the rugby captain type.

Just strikes me as the all-too-familiar NZ bloke who has never truly left high school.

actually to be fair I don't know anything about the bloke apart from his awful commentary.

He could very well be a very well educated person knowledgeable on many topics. I kinda doubt it though.

Isnt Sumo just trying to appeal to the ACC crowd? Says some of the dumb **** he trots out on there like getting excited about big pink worms and 69, with that annoying faux Graeme Hughes voice.

And I’m not having a go at ACC, it has a place and I’m a gigantic Jeremy Wells fan. Test cricket on the host broadcaster is not that place

Yeah maybe. Grateful for the reception to my rant but from my POV it actually outs me as ‘too conservative’ plus was pretty on the nose re: a lot of CW culture. Glad people interpret the villain as ‘not them’ ?

kinda sad

- "that feeling of accomplishment and success that you don't get outside of the game" - Rigor
- "that feeling of camaraderie after 5 days of cricket, you don't get that anywhere else" - Baz

Sorry guys but I reckon many, if not most of us get plenty of sense of success and accomplishment and camaraderie outside of hitting a red ball around a field. The reason you don't might have something to do with the fact that you're not actually doing anything meaningful after your sporting career. You made decent money, both of you. Plenty of opportunity to retrain in a field that would bring loads of accomplishment and camaraderie.

Ha, we're probably going a little overboard with the anti-Stevenson comments. Someone else hired him to be there, probably the same sort of brains trust that looked at Stephen Donald for good insight during the America's Cup. Not a fan at all but it's not like we've had the highest of standards with our commentators either. McCullum is there and he can barely string together a coherent sentence.
