Australian test selection 2020/21

Pretty straight forward selection for the Boxing Day Test. Unchanged XI if Warner not fit.

If Warner is fit, it'll be Wade and Head fighting it out to bat #5 as I don't see how Green doesn't play on the deadest pitch in the country where we need a 5th bowler.

I'm going for Wade at #5

Starc didn't even get a wicket in the rort yesterday, drop him if Warner's back. We only need Haze and Cummins.

Warner
Burns
Labu
Smith
Head
Wade
Green
Paine
Cummins
Haze
Lyon

I'm kidding.

One thing I wouldn't hate seeing if Wade could succeed as a partner to Warner is Burns getting a crack in the middle order at 5 or 6, but there's competition for spots everywhere now once everyone's fit.

There's 1 batting spot up for grabs long term IMO. Warner, Labu, Smith, Wade, Green and Paine have locked down 6 spots for the forseeable future. The last position, which could be an opener or a middle order spot, is well and truly contentious.

Burns, Head, Pucovski, Henriques, Harris, Khawaja all in contention for it atm

haha nah

without going round in circles over head (niiiice), wade isn't a better player than khawaja, pucovski or patterson (if he ever scores runs again). he's still in danger.

yeah i don't want to play pucovski, for him as much as anyone. it's duty of care stuff at this point for his long term health and if the selectors do pick him, to me, it sends a bad message as to their attitudes towards concussions imho

true. i guess rugby has made me optimistic of guys returning from several early concussions to have full careers, but i forgot pucovski has had like 9 or something.

alzheimers at 35-40 is a fate worse than death.

What process would they use to decide when/if Pukovski plays next?

I think it's about fair to once again put a line through Pucovski's name for the season

One step forwards, two steps back. Frankly I just feel sorry for him by this stage
Definitely fair. I wouldn't mind seeing Henriques step in, just as a specialist bat. What I've seen in the Shield gives me faith that he could do the job.
As an aside, if things progress such that Green could fulfill a bigger bowling role and one of the quicks suffers an injury there's the potential of playing 2 quicks, Lyon, Green + Henriques and going full #batdeep for a short period. But only if circumstances suit it.

Burns should have said no to being selected for his own good and for the good of his career. Prove me wrong.

Yeah, he would have been out of form waiting to hit some BBL/shield runs and get on the SA tour. Now he'll likely never play again unless the stars align next season
