i'll say it again, it's very easy to see why this nz side is particularly bad. heaps of the squad are from a northern districts side that came dead last at the nationals. that doesn't mean they don't have good players in their squad, but if they have 6 of the best 15 how come they sucked?

who'd have thought picking your worst players results in the worst team? the winners of the tournament (auckland) have only 4 out of the 15.

the selectors were head coach paul wiseman, graeme aldridge and adam miles. they should never be given any sort of selection role ever again. it reeks of the feedback former new zealand A coach grant bradburn was giving mike hesson "i know the other spinners took all the wickets but ish sodhi who got smashed was the best spinner i promise"

new zealands talent identification has been consistently parochial and generally really really bad since at least the 1990s canterbury mafia. gary stead himself was the beneficiary of test caps for all cantabs.

like vishvaka and clark (not clarke) might bat like the bastard love children of munro and nicol for all i know, and gard and zohrab might be paul hitchcock reincarnate but they probably deserve a go at age group level. especially vishvaka who scored 150 runs more than anyone else all tournament.

Is there any relationship of this Sangha with Jason Sangha? I remember Jason Sangha the captain of the under 19 Australian side couple of years ago. A very well spoken and a mature cricketer then. Is he with NSW? Is he going well?
I don't believe they are related, but am not sure

Jason Sangha is still in the NSW setup, played the entire season last summer, made a nice ton early but didn't do much else. Hasn't got a Shield game this season as NSW have preferred Burgey's boi in the middle order, but he's still very much around the squad, has had a strong grade season. He'll come again before too long

Curious, Sri Lanka are more favoured than NZ to win the tournament, but NZ are more favoured to win their group (which includes Sri Lanka) outright.

Hopefully they don't cop too much of a hiding against Bangladesh tonight.

Yes the hasty slashing of Bangladesh's price shows that those who poked their toe in this water first really had very few clues.

Bet365 waited and watched as someone else played the dangerous guessing game, and have now priced it up like this.

NZ an upset win over Bangladesh. A surprisingly penetrative Field and O'Rourke opening spell (Bangladesh 24/5 after 7), New Zealand then shaky chasing 112, but Tashkoff and Sunde put on 50 for the 7th wicket. ND U19 players still not really giving a good salute to the critics with bat or ball. Their reasonably potent bowler Hancock does appear to be injured, possibly Dickson as well now, who couldn't complete an over -

94* off 27 balls for Oliver Davies, Australia vs. Canada -

West Indies a comfortable win over Scotland -

253-run margin, UAE over Japan. The green shoots for Japan were Kazumasa Takahashi's 29 runs -

Davies can absolutely monster attacks on his day, quite the prospect. Just coming back off an arm injury but it hasn't taken him long to find his range.

That was a good win by our lads, won't say dominated but at least couple of them showed good fight. Jesse Tashkoff another Wellington lad of some substance. He hasn't kicked on for a big one but has been contributing with both bat and the ball. Particularly with the ball he's been mostly bowling to sub continent players as well. Looks quite a tidy action.

Yes, I wonder if Tashkoff might get some games for Wellington in Plunket Shield later this season. Looks a good all-round prospect.

That's disappointing, Only one game from the round robin game for NZ U19s is on TV this time around. If our lads don't make the super league and the only way to see them live is if they qualify for the plate finals. I'm hoping they can make the super league play offs.

Yes probably is pretty weak when you have a warm-up quadrangular series preceding a big event going live on YouTube (CSA have a contract with PitchVision), then that big event they were preparing for arrives, and it's a downgrade into just following an updating scorecard. There is a sort of thoughtless greed to wanting all eyes on whatever India vs. Japan junk the ICC's sponsors are keener on everyone seeing on any given day, rather than harnessing modern internet to make an U19 WC the best spectator event it could be.

Rather embarrassing having India vs Japan on TV but not NZ vs SL. That is not correct ICC no matter how much India contributes economically to the world cups.

The coverage regarding the Australian team has been absolutely appalling so far, pretty much nothing from CA, and Cricinfo can't be bothered to allocate bowling styles to most of the actual specialist bowlers in the team.

It can't be that bloody difficult surely? Piss poor

The under 19 world cup is all about India and the home team. Let time around we got some mileage this year South Africa will get some. From memory the world cup had good crowd attendance for our lads games.
