Looks good. The the position up for the most debate imo is who to put at No. 6.

Tugga is a good choice, with Neil Harvey & Ian Chappell being the most unlucky batsmen. On a flat pitch, Miller's bowling might come to be valuable, whilst on a spinner's deck, Richie Benaud would be a good choice.

Would also consider Lawry over Hayden.

My post-war side:

AR Morris
RB Simpson
RT Ponting
GS Chappell
AR Border
RN Harvey
AC Gilchrist +
KR Miller
RR Lindwall
SK Warne
GD McGrath

I like having Miller at 8, he's Australia's 5th best pacer (IMO) and bats better than Imran. Very close between Lindwall and Davo for that last spot, but I chose Lindwall for the bowling partnership with Miller.

Second XI:

WM Lawry
ML Hayden
AL Hassett
SR Waugh
MEK Hussey
KD Walters
R Benaud*
AK Davidson
D Tallon +
DK Lillee
WA Johnston

Pre-war:

VT Trumper
WH Ponsford
DG Bradman*
SJ McCabe
C Hill
MA Noble
WAS Oldfield +
WJ O'Reilly
CBT Turner
CV Grimmett
FR Spofforth

Best of the rest:

SG Barnes
WM Woodfull
CG Maccartney
SPD Smith
IM Chappell*
DR Martyn
IA Healy +
H Trumble
MG Johnson
JN Gillespie
JR Thomson

I actually had Lawry and Simpson opening but last minute swapped Hayden in. Should have left it as Simpson-Lawry is still the best ever Aussie opening partnership averaging 60, nearly 10 runs higher than anyone else.

I've got a unorthodox Australian opener ranking:

1. AR Morris
2. VT Trumper
3. RB Simpson
4. WM Lawry
5. ML Hayden
6. SG Barnes
7. WH Ponsford
8. WM Woodfull
9. DA Warner

Seeing Warner being mentioned along with Woodfull and Ponsford almost makes you wish you could make yourself vomit on demand.

Good to see you have Lawry so high. Bloke was a properly great opening batsman in a tough era for run scoring. His first tour to England was enormous for a young bloke.

It is impossible to compare Hayden or Warner with cricketerers like Ponsford or Woodfull. At home conditions, Hayden and Warner have been extraordinary. Impossible to assess how Ponsford or Woodfull would have played outside Aus/Eng.

Bob Simpson is underrated IMO. Great opener
Yeah I still think he and Lawry are our best ever opening combo. If you get a chance, watch him taking on Wes Hall in the Melbourne test of the 60/61 series. Came out blazing. Is a good watch if you can find some footage.

By all reports they were one of the first pairings to run a lot of sharp singles to rotate the strike, which I gather was a pretty rare thing back in those days.

Bob Simpson is underrated IMO. Great opener
Underrated as a cricketer in general. Arguably one of the two best openers in Aussie history, brilliant slip fielder and useful 5th bowler. For me an automatic selection for an AT Australian XI
