The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Simmo's batting average as an opener is in the mid 50s. Once he went to the top he was a machine

Yeah I still think he and Lawry are our best ever opening combo. If you get a chance, watch him taking on Wes Hall in the Melbourne test of the 60/61 series. Came out blazing. Is a good watch if you can find some footage.

By all reports they were one of the first pairings to run a lot of sharp singles to rotate the strike, which I gather was a pretty rare thing back in those days.
Hobbs/Sutcliffe of course.

Underrated as a cricketer in general. Arguably one of the two best openers in Aussie history, brilliant slip fielder and useful 5th bowler. For me an automatic selection for an AT Australian XI
Yeah totally agree. He was a great captain too, and even if he doesn't end up actually captaining a fantasy side he'd be a great guy for the captain to lend his ear to.

Australia have a lot of openers with similar on-face credentials so my first port of call is to go into things like this and Simmo ticks all the boxes. Lots of people pick Morris, Lawry or Hayden but I'm a Simpson first daylight second guy. I usually stick Trumper in with him in my Aus eleven.

The way things are going Australia will end up with the most well rounded ATG pace attack. Cummins is pretty much the best third seamer since Garner atm. McGrath and Lillee were of course both elite and very different, especially if you get young tearaway Lillee.

Not when Pak can have young tearaway Waqar and Wasim and cool head Imran as the 3rd seamer.

I'll be putting this as my Aus tail 'til the end of the millennium and nothing will change it:*

8. Miller
9. Lindwall
10. Warne
11. McGrath

* As is obvious, I'm mad.

He's a spambot guys. Apparently a model spambot but meh let's throw him in the fire (sadly only figuratively).

Before I get infraction points this is all in jest... mostly. :)

Well apparently emojis can't downsize. Weird.

It's interesting when a modern player stakes a serious claim on a nation's ATG team. I think it's best to wait until a career is over before putting someone in an ATG XI.

I think most people accept that Lillee and McGrath are in the Aust XI, Cummins would need to displace either Lindwall, Miller or Davidson as third quick. I'm still a fan of Miller batting top 6, with McGrath and Lillee as the two pure quicks and Warne and OReilly both selected as spinners.

Most other threads seem to be heading in to ATG team discussion territory, and going off topic.

Post your ATG teams here, so others can tell you why you know nothing about cricket.

I'll kick off with my ATG Australian combo.

Does Ahktar even make the Pak XI?

Wasim
Saqlain/Qadir
Waqar

Would be better than getting rid of a batsman for Ahktar surely? (im sure ive got the middle order in the wrong batting order too)
