*Official* England in New Zealand 2019

Don’t know what I’m more pleased about: the win, or Craig Cumming correctly referring to Wagner bowling a yorker with a leg-side field set as a bluff rather than a double bluff.
Bluff/double bluff is becoming like flammable/inflammable.

Broad's comical first ball lbw today also took place exactly nine years after he comically fell lbw first ball to complete the Human Aorta's birthday hat trick in Brisbane. The more things change.
Honestly it's so obvious now that it's basically flat-out bowling malpractice to do anything other than york him first nut.

But he shouldn't play in Australia if he's anywhere under 100%, or it'll be 2015 all over again.
But despite that he was still our best bowler there back then. Only other guy I can think of who bowled well without reward was Dougy. Trent HAS to play. Simply don't trust Southee or Henry to fill his boots. Ferguson and Wagner should obviously play.

IIRC Southee was pretty unlucky in the first test, and bowled better than Boult. In general he's more suited to Aus than Boult.

Yeah from memory Southee generally bowled OK without luck (but also lacked the tools to do really well in Aus), whereas Boult largely bowled **** before cleaning up in the D/N.

Still I get the feeling that Southee might not be in New Zealand's best three quicks for Australian conditions. Would take a brave selector to agree though.

Who else is there though?

Horses for courses should mean that Ferguson plays anyway.

That's gonna be bad luck for one of CdG, Santner, or possibly even Wagner.

Well done NZ. Thoroughly deserved after being well behind the game after two days. England pathetic..
Yup, we sure are. It would be lovely to be proved wrong occasionally, but this lot just don't have it in them. 197 in response to 615 is pretty spectacular.

Great test from santner- however I saw enough to know he should not be in the squad to tour Australia. He isn't a test spinner and he is very average for a number 8 test batsman (despite this innings).

Gotta love wagner!!
Thinking about it now- Wagner maybe a shout to be inclided in the best nz test xi ever.
Hadlee is offcourse opening- And I'd take Bond over Boult comfortably- and both would prefer the new ball- so Wagner is surely first change in that team.

Blew a double hundred.

Great result New Zealand. And awesome work by Wags today. Has there ever been another player who so reliably breaks through when it is most needed? The Watling of fast bowlers.

I heard Boult’s provisional diagnosis is side strain, which means 4-6 weeks on the sidelines if my Googling is anywhere near accurate.

Wasn't really feeling it due to an England-induced World Cup hangover when this series started, but watching the game over the weekend and then on cricinfo today ... test match cricket is back, baby!

Watching the replay of the last two hours now, and we really are a great test match side right now, aren't we? Every time we look down and out, someone stands up and does something to get us back on top. Sign of a very good team.

Probably jinxing us for the second test, but I think this series in Aus could be one for the ages. Definitely our best chance over there in a long long time.

Santner is as good a number 8 batsman as you'll find. He actually debuted at 6 against Australia in that D/N test and did an excellent job.

Such a great feeling that NZ can turn a game around like that and exercise such dominance at home against a reasonable opponent. Though England did come back strongly after an innings defeat in the first test last year so hope the side is as ruthless second time around. Kudos of course to Wagner, Santner (would need him to put in performances like this more regularly before I'm convinced but credit where due), and Watling of course. Would like to point out Southee's performances in NZ's last two tests and victories, this one and the one in SL. Looks like he's added some real craft to compensate for the gradual drop in pace. Much appreciated considering most of us would have him drop out of the XI if Ferguson were to come in.

Fingers crossed for Boult, needed badly for the Perth test at least.
