Just realised this could get farcical.

I reckon they should give longer for each wicket. Aside from the somewhat variable time for the batsman to get to the wicket - which is a maximum of three minutes to timed out - batsmen seem to spend much longer marking their crease than they used to. Either that or they get the third or fourth umpire to actually time it.
Takes longer than the 3 minutes for the 2 12th men to run on with drinks for the bowlers and other bat.
