Kambli hit him for a six in 1996 world cup.Inzi once pulled Ambrose for a flat six over square leg. Still remember Ambrose's face lmao he was so mad.

That's why Kapil Dev is the best choice.Mcgrath was as vulnerable to getting hit in ODIs by good, great and decent batsmen as Pollock. It is just that Glenn was better in getting wickets and turned up more often in World Cups. But it is not as if Pollock was poor when it mattered. His bowling in 1999 world cup semis was spectacular.
I would easily prefer Pollock over any part time bowler plus big hitting batting allrounder. The extra runs produced by the big hitter would not be conceded by Shaun in the first place.
Hayden in 2007 was in insane form. He was out of the team for the previous year and come back on a tour to NZ prior to the WC when Aus rested most of the team, made 180* one game and then was unlucky not to be player of the tournament in the 2007 WCThat Hayden assault on him in 2007 was scary. I remember he'd destroyed India just a few months before that when SA walloped India.
Don't forget Marshall too.Greatbatch got after Ambrose in 92
Garner was just as fantastic whether opening or bowling first change. Best ever ODI bowler & should be in any AT World XIFlintoff
Dhoni
Pollock
Akram
Murali
Mcgrath
I like the way this team is balanced with both bat and ball.
Pollock and Mcgrath to open. Murali in the middle. Wasim and flintoff for the death. Everyone but flintoff is top 2 from recent years in their bowling roles in the team, and even he is close at least- I can only really think of wasim who is clearly ahead.
It probably makes sense to drop Mcgrath for Garner. It would help with variety, but I'm not sure where he fits into the bowling position question.
Yes. If we include the six sigma quality standard for bowlers, alluded to earlier, he stands head and shoulders above the others.Garner was just as fantastic whether opening or bowling first change. Best ever ODI bowler & should be in any AT World XI
In Garner's time it was mostly 60 overs and 55 overs matches.40+ an innings looks very bad for Garner. Once every 5.16 innings.
Just marginally better than for 50+ an innings for Warne (once every 4.19 innings)
And slightly worse than for 50+ an innings for Saqlain (once every 5.63 innings)
What about Richard Hadlee ? Best Batsman among best of the bowlers.Yes. If we include the six sigma quality standard for bowlers, alluded to earlier, he stands head and shoulders above the others.
Just look at the proportion of times they were taken for 50 or more runs in an ODI innings:
Garner: once every 32.67 innings
Pollock: once every 11.22 innings
Akram: once every 10.47 innings
McGrath: once every 7.81 innings
Murali: once every 7.78 innings
Flintoff: once every 7.05 innings
Statistics are truly wonderful, unerringly leading us to the truth.
