that's a really weird declaration
Yeah. Lots of time left in the game. And anything before tea/under 550-600 has an outside chance of backfiring. Really should've batted on for at least another hour.

O/c it's perfectly possible that Sri Lanka are 7 down or something at stumps, but if they're 2/120 or something......

Paine's captaincy continues to baffle. Perhaps it was one of the Gnome's silly ideas. I'd have gone on to tea and gotten over 600. Paine wasn't even accelerating at all.

It's the sort of declaration Smith loved to make. But even then Australia were generally accelerating pre-declaration.

like, how many tests these days go anything like full length? 5 days is a really, really long time, there really is no need to artificially accelerate the game like this

Excellent, usually when subcontinent players have the same last name they'll have their first name on the display to differentiate them. Instead we get Dimuth Karunaratna opening the batting.

Starc doing his best to relieve pressure lol

Also man hope we don't read too much into this batting performance. Got runs against probably one of the most inexperienced test pace attacks in an established test nation of all time

We'll still get rekt in the Ashes with this lot. Expect only Warner and Smith and maybe KP to score heavily over there

Really should have gone on to 600. Pretty clear the batsmen have pegged that there's no demons in this pitch at all.

Trent Copeland was not meant to commentate.

Richardson breaking new ground in this test by bowling an entire over on the same side of the wicket. Though could make them play a bit more.

Hard to induce false shots when batsmen know they just have to wait until the next over to get some runs tbh

Starc better turn this poor patch of form around quickly, not much left before the Ashes. Guy's career average has ballooned to almost 30 now.

It feels like Starc is trying to bowl Johnson's ball to Cook in Adelaide every other delivery here, but without gumption.
