Sarfraz Ahmed Racist Comments Discussion

This thread really shows that normally sensible people can throw all logic and fair judgement out the window when a trigger like "racism" is involved

There's people seriously suggesting long bans for this. jfc

Cant be bothered going through every post here and responding but the idea that intent is completely irrelevant is horseshit. No one's saying lack of intent makes it ok, which is the strawman everyone seems to be going for.

If you’re worried about triggers, thank **** no one said “Handscomb” in the thread

Don't be bitter, you should be chuffed that I implied you were "normally sensible" tbh

Sledger has once again managed to successfully troll everybody into responding to his **** threads.
Nah it's a good thread IMO. No one was trolled either, sledger just provided a platform. It's not like anyone was tricked into thinking it was mean to be something it's not.

The part I find most annoying is the apology. Why is it so hard to say 'sorry, my bad'?
The outcome is the outcome regardless of the intent. My sister still sported a black eye from my bouncer, even though I had not intended for her to try and hoik it over the fence.

Ok but would it be as bad if you slipped and accidentally bowled her a short ball when you just wanted to give her a nice half volley, than if you deliberately ran up and bowled her a bouncer because you wanted to knock her out? Pretty sure the latter is worse

He did not accidently slip. He knew what he was saying? He just didn't think about the implicantions. As for my sister, regardless of how the ball got there, the outcome was a black eye. The comment is racist. As Burgey, rightfully pointed out, time will tell whether Safraz is.

this is a bizarre analogy

How? It's a perfect analogy. Is it worse if you offend/injure someone by accident or if you deliberately offend/injure them because you're a ****? I don't see why it's hard to understand.

well i mean there's a difference between "the words i intentionally said had an unintentional meaning" and "completely unexpected circumstances made me do something completely different"

part of his job as an international captain is to consider what he's saying before he says it. sarfraz doesn't live under a rock. anyone with a couple of neurons in their skull knows touching colour in south africa is tugging the boiling jug towards the edge of the bench.

we've all said dumb stuff, and when in positions of responsibility we've had to cop the consequences. he's dragged pakistan cricket into a needless racism situation. if i was his boss i'd be spewing.

Didn't he and Phehlukwayo talk it over? If Andile has forgiven him, why are the rest of you lot so keen to be the moral police? I've seen reputable members of this forum get away with constant taunts over the potable water situation and general poverty in the subcontinent, but they say it's in jest and they are in good standing around these parts, so the rest of us have to give this barely veiled condescending nonsense a pass? I mean, if we're going to be all PC, then why the different standards?

being the moral police would imply that we actually have any power to do anything about sarfraz, though

The truth, as always, lies between Burge's virtue signalling and TJB's facepalm worthy analogies..
