The press is making a big deal about the supposed brilliant Kholi sledge by Paine:

“I know he’s your captain but you can’t seriously like him as a bloke?”

I find it quite lame as Kholi wasn't even around to hear it, however how is that not personal, which is where the line is supposed to be drawn (and which the new Aus team have vowed to never cross)

Same. It wasn't anything special but the way it's being shared around on social media as if it's something really special is cringey

It's because he doesn't say ****, that means Paine is a gentleman and a scholar.

I mean I'm easily impressed and even I reckon talking trash about a guy to his buds ain't a revolution of Australian attitudes in cricket.

Its not what is actually said but how Paine is playing the game. Its effective because he knew it would be reported and Kohli would hear it eventually. Tellingly he wouldn't hear his own team mate defending him which is why it was such a brilliant sledge in the way it was targeted and delivered.

Kohli called Paine a part time captain and generally behaves like the dick we all know him to be. He makes his personality an issue and Paine's sledge is acceptable because it is true.

I think India will regroup and win the series as our batting is too unstable. But Paine has completely out foxed and out manoeuvred Kohli this test at least.

But Paine is part time captain, so that's true as well ;)

Ok maybe better to say interim captain until one of the 4 shield captains lock in their position in the team (finch, head, khawaja and marsh)

Oh for sure. Legit sledge. I wasn't complaining about that. But neither should Paine just take it.

I didn't know he called him a part time captain, that probably does warrant Paine's sledge

But immediately when I heard Paine's sledge I too thought it was a bit too 'personal'

Nah I didn't think it was ott at all. Kohli carried on like a complete knob in the field the whole time. Whooping and yahooing, sledging Paine etc. **** him. Deserved what he got. If Warner carried on in the field the way Kohli did, the local hand wringers would already be calling for his head and tripping over themselves to apologise to our revered and exalted guests. He copped what he gave out. The bloke's ****.

we might as well force cricketers to have their mouths sewn shut if we're going to chuck a fit over that

When asked if he’s sick of people talking about his technique, Handscomb said: “Yeah, pretty much. It’s my technique, I’ve had it for five years.

"Little things here and there that I’ll do with it and what not but people have to talk about something, I understand that, but yeah, it’s getting a bit much.”
Reads a little head-in-the-sands. Atleast he's been told to watch the ball so everything will be ok.

Wouldn't be surprised if India bowled him into form, mind.

Who's chucking a fit over it? Seems like it's being pretty well received
oh yeah i'm more saying in general. a ridiculous thing to go wowser over - and even if not critical, i think the media has made a bit of meal out of it, trying to gin up controversy where there is none

He also shed light on the details of the ball tampering attempt in itself. He said he had learned of the plan when he overheard a conversation in the team’s dressing room at Newlands. “I think it’s been documented pretty heavily, sort of, what went on. For me in the room, I walked past something and had the opportunity to stop it and I didn’t do it and that was my leadership failure. It was the potential for something to happen and it went on and happened out in the field.”
