Yeah, I think how India goes with the new ball will basically decide their chances. If they wangle a few out consistently then they’re a good shout, but if they don’t then even our current line up should cash in when it flattens out.

I was speaking of Varun Aaron before, that guy really wasted the new ball at Adelaide. Served absolutely floaty trash to Warner in his first spell of that last Adelaide encounter.

Imo India are going to regret playing only 4 bowlers. Seems to be a result of batsmen getting ****ed in SA and ENG but the batsman are going to go alright in AUS imo. Here their struggle is going to be picking those 20 wickets. I'd have gone with Umesh instead of another bat.

Honestly I would rather have Bhuvi than Umesh. He gives you a wicket with the new ball and some discipline.

True, with Kumar you know what you are gonna get. Umesh is my wild card though. He can be truly great like that spell in the final test of Aus' India tour or he can be downright bad like he was in England. He's going to have a little more runs to play with than in England so thats a plus.

How do you guys think Ishant's gonna do this game?
He’s been pretty good the last two years or so and he’s their most experienced pacer. I think he’ll actually do well if he bowls the right length - he has a style and trajectory that’s more likely to work here than the skiddier blokes - hits the deck and gets a bit of bounce. What sort of pace does he hit these days?

how many overs before the realisation sets in that bowling in england is nothing like bowling in australia?
This is at least partly off set by not just how weak this Australian line up is, but how unproven, even at home. Three blokes in the top six playing their first home test, three Victorians in the top six too. As weak and unproven a line up since the mid-80s.

132-142 sort of range I think
I think in the past he’s been one of those blokes who seems unlucky but has actually bowled a foot too short to catch edges or hit poles. I haven’t seen much of him recently but posts on here suggest he’s been a lot better, so from an Indian POV you’d hope he steps up and continues that.

I remember it well, that was some seriously insipid bowling. A career economy rate of 4.77 says a lot.

He brained Stuart Broad though, have to give credit for that

I should put a caveat on my last post by saying that his improvement has been noted by a number of posters on here, and most of you are frankly terrible judges

His most famous exploits of the last few years have been bullying Sri Lankans, and bouncing out a grim England side that included Moeen "I am so glad I never saw Bodyline" Ali.

I wonder if he's more consistent overall in tasking batsmen, or just conjures more wicket-taking deliveries in between the usual. That could be enough anyway, I can almost visualize some of the bad shots and collapses that the Australians might produce this tour.

It feels like eventually this Indian side has to make good on their potential to really press and hold an advantage in an away series not in the sub-continent.

I hope India do the 'always go around the wicket to the left hander' strategy again like they're playing an under-13s match.

I haven't seen enough to judge what lengths he usually bowls. From what I did see of the SA, Eng series and county cricket he was bowling big inswingers quite full recently.

I remember people were saying Ishant had improved before we last toured India, but he wasn't very impressive in that series.

I'm hoping Umesh gets a chance this series at some point. He's shown so much improvement over the last few years.

Vijay Kumar was worse. The Anal examination Warner administered at Perth in 2012 was just sad to watch.
