 The irony is not lost on me. Trust me, unlike most Australian posters in this site, I have actually seen cricket not broadcast by Channel 9, instead of relying on second hand descriptions of what it's like and fronting.:whistling
Poor stuff, this. No need to pollute an excellent thread like this with nationalist bile. If you read his posts you'd know Starfighter is an excellent poster.

On one hand, yes. On the other hand 24 fivers in 27 tests is madness.
Madness. For the top ten in this list:

That's nuts. I always knew his record was ridiculous. It's just a shame we have no real way other than eye witness accounts to see him (and Trumper) in action.

We are coming to the end of an enormous exercise. What a monumental effort from DoG ! DoG has arrived at the top 3 bowlers of all time and they fully deserve to be there.
Here is my own list of top 12 fast bowlers and 4 spinners of last 50 years (I have not included bowlers before that as it is hard to compare eras). I am sure every one will not agree to this order :).

In the order of merit :

1) Marshall
2) Hadlee
3) Mcgrath
4) Ambrose
5) Steyn
6) Garner
7) Donald
8) Lillee
9) Imran
10) Wasim
11) Waqar
12) Holding

Add the below spinners to the list and we get 4 all time great bowling quartets.

1) Warne
2) Murali
3) Kumble
4) Ashwin ( debatable, but I am struggling to get better options)

No. This is dog's list

Interestingly McGrath's quality points are less than both Marshall and Imran. A little above Lillee. Marshall has very high quality points
Mcgraths consistency does him no favours. Knock off a couple of years and his career was practically his peak.

Imran scores big time here. I'm not sure, but I think he ends up earning more points in his peak than the rest of his career after the effects stack.

Maybe there should be a positive addition for the best 5 years, and a negative addition for the worst 5, McGrath / Marshall should come up the charts with that change.

New Zealand's greatest cricketer. Knighted whilst still playing, Sir Richard Hadlee led New Zealand into the modern age, turning them from also-rans into a top 3 nation. With Hadlee scathing through batting lineups like a skilled surgeon, New Zealand didn't lose a test series at home from 1980 until he retired. They also won their first series in Australia and England when Hadlee, in his mid-thirties, hit his peak, taking 68 wickets in 9 matches from November 1985 to August 1986. From 1980 until his retirement at the age of 39 he took 324 wickets in 60 matches (19.59 47.24 6.76). He is so close to being the only bowler ranked in the top 10 for every criteria.

I often think that Hadlee would be rated even higher than he is by cricket writers and followers of the game if he had played in marquee series such as the Ashes. He would be held in extremely high regard if he managed to take Australia to Ashes glory in 1985 or helped Australia to draw to West Indies at home in 1988/89. And of course he would have taken even more wickets with the amount of cricket on offer. But this is mere conjecture on my part.

It cannot be disputed that he has a high PPI due to not having as much competition for wickets as Steyn, McGrath or Marshall. However, Chatfield, Cairns, and co. were not poor bowlers and in any case batting sides would usually try to see out the strike bowler whilst attacking (and getting out) to the supporting acts. They couldn't see out Hadlee.

I'm surprised he only has that many gold performances, considering his lone-handedness.

So Hadlee is the greatest fast bowler ever as per this exercise, barring Barnes. That's pretty close to true and I am glad he gets the honour here.

Agree with that. Hadlee is in my top 5 cricketers of all time. Other 4 being Bradman, Sobers, Imran and Muralidharan.

Hadlee was amazing. Some of his Nottinghamshire exploits, which I only read about recently, were mind-boggling.

So the top two bowling lineups are:

Murali
Barnes
Steyn
Hadlee

Vs

Warne
McGrath
Marshall
Imran

That would make for some spectacular cricket. Both tails are quite balanced with the second being a bit stronger with the bat. Both of these attacks have bowlers who are proven in SENA, the West Indies and Asia.
