He's seemed like a broken man ever since the slip. It's a little bit tragic, but mostly hilarious.

I think that is the reason why he wants to be a manager. I have a suspicion he doesn't want his story to end in that way and will want to take Liverpool over as manager some day. Because before the last couple years, when asked, he tended to be pretty 'meh' or unsure about even wanting to go into management.

Arenal playing so badly at the moment. Should have lost to Spurs, United and PSG. Need to change something quickly, maybe start playing Ox has a winger more.

And that's a shame, because from here he sounds slightly deluded, if you're right.

Someone - I think it was Lawrenson - was quoted this morning as saying that Liverpool could employ him in an ambassadorial role, which makes more sense to me.

And I think it was Klopp who said he needs to cut his teeth managing at a much lower level - maybe politely telling Gerrard to forget about walking straight into a top job.

And of course, we might all be wrong about his ambitions anyway.

I have my doubts about Stevie G being successful as a manager too but I would be happy to be proved wrong. He simply doesn't come out as a guy who is made for a career in managing football clubs at the top level. But hey, what do I know about the technical aspects anyway.

If I had to pick any of Stevie G or Carragher to successfully manage Liverpool somewhere down the line then I'd put my money in believing Carra to be that guy.

On the face of it, I think Carragher would be a great manager. But my basis is the same as why I thought Gary Neville would be.

Why is he deluded? It's not like he'd expect to take over tomorrow. I think learning from Klopp would be amazing.

In theory that's a great idea but I'm not sure a massive Gerrard shaped shadow being cast over Klopp or the club is what they need right now.

We'll see, I still remember Alan Beer and Darren Rowbotham (both Welsh too) getting serious injuries before they were about to be record Transfers away from us, so I never count Taffy chickens.
Rowbotham was a total arse. Was not well liked in the dressing room at Shrewsbury, full of bull according to a couple of the players I knew and made out he was so much better than that level.

On a serious note all this stuff coming out about young boys being molested is shocking. The old line about wanting a young player then go to Crewe looks a bit alarming now.

I think they could maybe become good managers after some time spent working out their ideas at smaller clubs. The way Conte and Simeone did. Sort of just guessing though, being a good pundit is so different from coaching.

I tend to think the standard of PL managers has improved to the point where "intelligent, articulate ex-pro with links to the club" is waaay too weak a CV for a top job. Probably too weak for any PL job in fact. They'd have gone fine when clubs were routinely hiring good ex-footballers with nothing between the ears like Glenn Hoddle or Stuart Pearce, but not now.

So Welsh then.

Could have been a contender though, before his leg injury, lost about a yard-and-a-half of pace and some flexibility after his cruciate, he was lucky/unlucky in that a few years earlier it would have ended his career entirely, few years later and he would have recovered a lot better.

Probably said this before, but Bobby Campbell and John Hollins were stood next to us watching him on the Big Bank for Chelsea. were ready to make a bid. Then he got injured whilst scoring. Probably a bit bitter about it really, maybe explaining his poor attitude.

Hoddle a poor choice there. Was a legit good coach/manager in the 90s. General point is good though (hence the like :p)

Started at Swindon as player-manager too, didn't he? So there was some due paying.

There was a phase when all the qualifications one needed to be a Prem manager was being foreign, over 30 and on the playing staff though. See Gullit, Vialli and Lombardo. None of whose subsequent managerial careers suggest any great aptitude for the job.

It's one thing being able to identify weakness in a side, it's another thing entirely to communicate that to your charges and get them to stop making mistakes.

Hoping for a high scoring draw between the Chavski and the Spuds later. Preferably with 4 red card to be shared between Costa, Hazard, Kane and Alderweild
