*Official* English Football Season 2016-17

Tangles

International Vice-Captain
I see Klinsmann is now available. Not sure the English players will meet the standards the Americans didn't though.

Haha, to me he's been retired since he left Liverpool. I've already mourned him once I won't do it again

Haha I've grown to like you over the last few months so I won't troll you.

It's a shame he went to America actually, someone like Gerrard should have retired a one club man.

Its a fair point that. But I suppose on the other side of it he's gone because he genuinely loved playing, felt Liverpool could go forward without him and wanted something new to challenge him away from his history. Can't say it was a bad move on his part.

Jeez. I can remember his old man making his debut. That ages me.
Funny really, earlier in the thread I mentioned to GIMP, jokingly, that maybe Chelsea could buy him from us and loan him back to us. Yet apparently that's what they're offering to tey to prise him from Arse's clutches with Kwame being coach "n" all.

We'll see, I still remember Alan Beer and Darren Rowbotham (both Welsh too) getting serious injuries before they were about to be record Transfers away from us, so I never count Taffy chickens.

Apparently (so Wikipedia reckons, usual health warnings apply) he's yer Grecians' youngest ever player. The chap whose record he took? Cliff Bastin.

If that's not a cannon - shaped omen that he's destined for the Arse I don't know what is.

I think for all intents and purposes he was, the same way Xavi or many other modern players who leave at the tail end for money are. This is going to be the modern way by and large. The point of the one club man is basically someone who gave their career and serviced one club, without joining another to ever hinder them IMO. He gave almost 3 decades to Liverpool, that'll do me. LA was basically a nice retirement holiday that paid really well. This is probably why I never took any of the news of him coming back seriously. Stevie has been one of the most selfless star players and the minute he wasn't useful enough for Liverpool for the manager (Rodgers) to start him regularly he had enough self-awareness to call it a day. That self-awareness is probably why he didn't take the MK Dons job. He isn't some poetic, philosophical genius a la Guardiola but his sense for the game inside and outside of the pitch has generally been spot on.

I think I'm passed being trolled - and I recognised it even then, just gave me an excuse to rant about him  - but these days I think it simply doesn't matter much to me what others think of him because a lot of the bile directed at him is opposition fan bitterness and to an extent jealousy. But it makes me happy in a way because even for that reason - aside from being Superman in a Liverpool shirt - it means he'll be immortal and he won't be forgotten. He gets songs sang for and against him to this day, and there are a lot of great players in history who are seldom spoken about.

And this one is for you  (it's actually a brilliantly made fan video).
