Previous 'A' games in the winter have been run-fests so got to presume it could be the same ? Just trying to remember if that was only in the Highveld though.

No chance of Piedt getting randomly shafted from the team again?
Can't see it. Maybe on a Wanderers pitch offering absolutely nothing for the spinner is the only time I can see a spinner being left out in SA going forward.

Yeah; there was hope Duminy could essentially be South Africa's Moeen, but since his last injury he has bowled complete tripe and his batting has gone downhill as well. It'll be Piedt and three specialist quicks 95% of the time going forward, I dare say.

Yeah, and we have fairly solid spin back-up too for the Test side, in Shamsi, Harmer, and Tahir.

Duminy was meant to be the 5th bowling option (as best a replacement for Kallis as possible!), Batting would look great going to 7 with 4 bowlers (quicks spinners as necessary). Now its a dodgy Duminy with 7 bats, or 6 bats with Morris/Parnell at 7..... neither is great. Still think we should try Elgar as a decent 5th but it is scraping the barrel.

Bowling pretty much picks itself with an abundance of choices, even in the spin department. With Cook coming in, top 4 is easily selected. SA`s entire problem comes from the 5/6/7, one good all-rounder would solve much for SA.

Would love to have a shoot-off with our spin bowlers and see what their positioning is.

Even the up-and-comers like Linde, Subrayen and Fortuin.

Because while I like Piedt - Harmer, Maharaj have out-bowled him on occasions & even Linde when both played for Western Province or Cobras.

I like Shamsi a lot. You can see batsman are having to just read him off the pitch. Just wonder where his 4-day game is right now.

Think he did all right towards the end of last season, recall he picked up a sevenfer for the Titans in a four-day game.

Think you got to pick Piedt now, but Shamsi is breathing down his neck.

I like Linde, he's one for the future.

Been waiting for this game!

My South African work college told me weather delays are unlikely, so given that both team batting is probably gonna be a bit flimsy (SA due to inexperience & form, NZ due to being in South Africa and Dale Steyn) I think its safe to expect two result matches. I'm putting my money on a 1-1 series scoreline.

I'd love to know how we are 'well-settled', which is the headline on cricinfo. New captain, a massive hole at five, no spinner worth talking about and our two best seamers haven't been in decent form for almost a year.

I wouldn't write us off obvs, but New Zealand isn't even close to well settled.

Agree with that.

If the wicket is anything like the article suggests then I guess we'll play the spinner in addition to Santner. So Sodhi, which could be a horrible failure and should at the very least be 'interesting'.

Firdose is crap writer.... she just makes things up as she goes along. Alot of what she says is to try make additional controversy in SA.
