Aussie batting in the sub-continent summed up in one brilliant image.
It's an old axiom but it's true. Stupidity is defined by continually doing the same thing but expecting a different outcome. There's been little change in approach afaic see to the batting, and if they go back to SMarsh, IMO it will just show they're not prepared to bite the bullet and look for a fresh approach to bating in these conditions. The nonsensical nature of the approach since basically 04 in India does my head in.

I do think, however, that it's worth noting that Voges playing the reverse sweep today didn't seem pure at all. I'm probably misreading it, but like, it seemed to me like he heard someone say that maybe he should use it to help combat the bowling and so he did, as opposed to it being a genuine tool in his shed. ie he did try to change it, but he picked something he's not really good at

Never thought 2-0 for SL was a possibility at the start of the series considering the show in Eng and the batting issues. Two big reasons for the reversal: Kusal Mendis, and my underestimation of how **** Aus is vs spin in these conditions.

Absolutely. And Warner is a great embodiment of the thinking and the culture of this team. He is brilliant in so many ways, yet there has been an absolute refusal for him to respect these conditions, respect the opposition and try to adapt his game accordingly. His batting is based on the obdurate stance "that's the way I play..my way or highway"
And it's reflected in the body language, it's reflected in Lyon's jibe, it's reflected in TJB's complaints about the pitches. They hate these conditions, they don't really wanna be here. And you can't really learn and improve something you don't enjoy. Even Lehman remarked once that it's 'just' the subcontinent where they are poor.
Lehman also had a massive whine after the first Ashes test about the lack of pace and bounce in the Cardiff pitch (which is always like that, barring the one a match was abandoned for) and said he hoped we'd provide more sporting bouncy pitches. They don't seem to even think about wanting to adapt.

You could say that Lehmann was asking for Australian pitches in England. Of course when we got pitches which actually had sideways movement we fell in a heap.

IMO part of the inability to adapt is the flat wickets we've been preparing recently (although maybe this goes without saying). Our pitches have good pace and bounce, but no sideways movement and generally don't turn. Sydney used to be a famed spinner's wicket, but has been fairly benign recently. The pitches have lost the variety they used to have. Yet we arrogantly go on our way...

He probably meant early 2010s India when we went 0-8. We were excellent overseas in the late 2000s.

Also would've won in SA if we had a competent captain.

Well played SL. Starkers can hold his shaved thug head high, tremendous effort.

SL fielding top-notch.

Like the idea of Henriques for Holland, harsh on Jon though. Don't want to see SMarsh in there again. Can't play 2 spinners in my view.

I actually wouldn't be opposed to Darsh coming in as long as its for Usman.

Khawaja is undone by his inherent direness bred into him by NSW, Burns' only fault was that his heart was so large he thought he could be that which he is not - aggressive.

Well done Sri Lanka! Thoroughly deserved and very enjoyable too.

The good thing about this series is Marto's subcontinental batting is only going to become more and more legendary.

I have a theory on this which is climate related, specifically the 2000-2009 drought
