Australian Domestic Off Season 2016

He wasn't bowling too well yesterday afternoon. Started trying to dart them in flat but served up a great many half-trackers and full tosses. Did edge one past Whiteman and Bancroft I think failed to get under one of many Van Zyl kept hitting towards him at short leg.

Caused problems for Van Zyl and Bavuma (who edged that one past Whiteman who didn't seem to pick it up) though once the shadows crept over the pitch from the pavillion, ball becomes impossible to see from the crowd once that happens.

CPL, possibly. They've generally opted against calling guys back from overseas for the A tour.

Any reason Lynn wasn't chosen outside of the usual?
Yeah he's busy. It doesn't mean anything that he wasn't selected, this wasn't an A side, more of an "emerging talents" side with a couple of more experienced players in it. If it was a genuine 2nd XI I doubt any of the players in this side would be there, maybe Bancroft.

I hoped that was the case but hadn't read anything from CA saying it was an emerging talents side. However looking at the names more it seams reasonable. Thanks

Australian pacers too good for Saffers today
Very surprising that these Aussies have been so competitive, let alone winning, against a pretty strong SA line-up with genuine Test players in it. Kind of not sure how excited to feel though because I would be surprised if Worrall, Mennie or Tremain really got close to a national call-up any time soon. They're a long way back in the pecking order.

They're all better than Scott Boland though

The thing is Australia A is outclassed on names, and they S Africa full of quotas tho, lost by 200 who would have thought.

Mennie is a seriously good bowler, I don't think he'd be too far away TJB. I can see him making a debut as the third seamer, particularly in the circumstance when our two opening bowlers are fast and erratic or if they were both genuine number 10's and we have an injury or two. I rate his batting too.

There's Something about Stoinis. Doesn't look like much but damn if he doesn't just score some hard runs that hurt the oppo. Takes the game away from you quickly too.

Can see Mennie, Worrall and Tremain getting a run in the OD team at some point.

Mennie the obvious replacement for Boland.

Only with a lot of injuries you'd think. Selectors have already shown a preference for the likes of Bird, Faulkner, Coulter-Nile, Pattinson, Hastings, Cummins, ?Siddle etc. as back-ups for Starc & Hazlewood. Even Sayers & Fekete were in recent national squads but they could have fallen back in the pecking order.

Boland is so **** though

I'm not saying you're wrong but this would be really depressing; none of them are even remotely good white ball bowlers at the moment. I'm pretty sure they all average 40+ in List A cricket. They should all be high up on the list of possible Test reserves in case of injury but I wouldn't like to see them in the ODI rotation.

Aus selectors do have a recent history of picking players in a form of the game they're not the best at based on their performances in a form of the game the are good at but are then not selected in

Yeah, that's why I think he's not necessarily wrong. It'd just be a really bad idea IMO.

Andrew McDonald has touted as the next Vic coach according Cricinfo.

Any thoughts if he would be good ... or bad ?

Well apparently he did good things culture-wise up at Leics, but you can't argue with the results Saker has produced over the last couple of years.

At the very least Ronnie won't be whinging about anti-Vic conspiracies.
