That Michael Bracewell dismissal is an absolute shocker, he hit it straight into the ground.
Yeah, that is. Looked like a crowd catch.

Otago capitulate once he's gone.

7-fer for Sodhi. But unlike Craig's 7-fer in the round before it was not done in conjunction with an improved RPO. Went at 4 per over. Just thinking about shock/sudden blackcaps recalls .....

Anyways ... congrats Ish. Some lovely dismissals, and ....

Sodhi's definitely improved a lot in the last year, which is I supposed what you'd expect from a talented leggie his age. I still think he's going to Tahir but it'd be interesting to see if he'd be selected in a Test squad on a trip to Asia right now. I suspect he might be.

From where the ball would've had to have hit the bat, I just can't see it lobbing it like that unless it was a bump ball.

why is batting allrounder sam wells at #8 below bowling allrounder nmac?

canterburys batting to ajaz patel is funny viewing.

Yeah without a doubt, he's still obviously in the selectors plans as specialist spinner batting not considered. Santner now the project player and spinner for seaming wickets but tbh on a tour to Asia right now I'd pick 1. Astle 2. Santner. 3. Sodhi on the basis I think Astle is the better long format spinner in NZ at the moment but picking two leggies would be too samey, even though Sodhi is a better spinner than Santner.

Been looking forward for a while to the great NZ spin-off (next tour of India). I assumed it would be Santner, plus Craig and Tastle fighting to be the other spinner. I did also consider that NZ selectors like to ignore Tastle and would probably take Sodhi instead. Now it seems Sodhi might even have done something to deserve that - much astoundment.

Should be fun anyway, particularly if there are a couple of warmups where they all play.

Think Devon may've actually passed on our tip about markedly increasing the number of wrong 'uns to the lower-order domestix.

Certainly everything is all go down at the Uni Oval, ND 56/6 after resuming on 38/3. Big fan of Jack Hunter and he looks to be doing plenty of damage too.

The South African quota system is providing a nice boost to the NZ domestic scene.

Nofal, 24, has followed an almost identical path to New Zealand cricket as the 36-year-old Black Cap.

Both were born in Johannesburg, played for South Africa's under-19s before getting bogged down in South Africa's quota system while playing at provincial side Gauteng - Elliott initially moved to Christchurch in 2003, as a 24-year-old, before cracking Wellington's first-class team.

And Nofal has the Black Cap to thank for choosing Wellington - and Pearce Cup leaders Onslow - as his cricketing destination.

"I was coaching a kid in South Africa and his dad knew Grant Elliott.

"He [the dad] said to me 'how about you try somewhere else' and suggested New Zealand as he knew Grant. He sent him an email about if there would be any opportunities for me in New Zealand and he [Elliott] came back and said there is some opportunity in Wellington if I wanted to have a crack."...

"New Zealand is an ideal place to try make a career where there are no outside politics being pushed into the game and it's quite refreshing coming to a country where you get played on merit.

"Obviously it's quite intense back home with all of that [quota] stuff. I'm not saying it's a terrible system, but it's a tough system to get into and I think a lot of South Africans get lost in that system and after school there are thousands of good cricketers who are forced to give up the game they love."

..

He's been able to lean on his friend Chad Bowes, who made his first-class debut for Canterbury over the weekend, for support, while also getting advice from Elliott.

"He gave me a call and asked how I was doing and told me a little bit about his experiences in New Zealand and said this is the way to go forward."

Ben Smith - very unlucky dismissal.

165/5 | CENTRAL STAGS vs CANTERBURY

Personally I think any catch off a fielder's helmet should be deadball. but then again - I hate batsmen, so **** em.

Although he did hit it directly at a target only 2 metres from the bat, so anything can happen, pretty careless I suppose.
