It's a lottery for the batsmen, and no matter how much a batsman applies himself, he'll get a ball that he can't play.

The toss is far too important and, frankly, its boring.

A draw on the fifth afternoon, with the batting team 8 wickets down, and 30 needed to win, is far more exciting than teams being skittled for under 250 in every innings.
The toss has hardly been a factor in this test. Good batsmen who've been willing to not do stupid things have got runs. And it's been fun to watch, although that is subjective.

Heartiest congrats to India, but on paper would this be the worst South African side since reintegration? Bowling especially. Can anyone find a weaker Saffa side?
The early years of Smith from 2003-2006 were pretty weak too with SA losing both home and away but on paper, this looks a far weaker side. I guess we will have more of a perspective when they plat at home this winter.

I haven't watched this match, so can't comment on the pitch, but the first test was a difficult pitch but more so terrible batting by both sides.

Not sure if this match is terrible batting by SA or the pitch.

Who would replace him though?

Id even consider dropping rabada for Bavuma to get an extra batsman in there.
I'd rather drop Vilas and have AB keep to get Bavuma in.... my comment regarding Tahir was just pure facetious. But Tahir won`t play again after the final test in India.

It is not a lottery. The toss is not that important and this is exciting.
I do think that the toss is important, but then the toss is important in a lot of test matches all around the world, including in Australia and England and UAE.

However, I am not sure if SA had batted first on Day 1, they would have scored a lot more than 79

The toss was absolutely crucial, you can purely judge that by the reactions of both captains... And its been playing in SA's heads all game that they need to bat last... Its a definite psychological blow equivalent to have "runs on the board".

Because the ball is turning from the very first ball, the toss is not that important. Conditions today are not much worse today than they were yesterday. This pitch doesn't create a situation where the entire test is boring and all the action happens in the fourth innings.

Not as a long-term solution though - just the last Test.

QDK will be back in Durban on 26 December I think.

And have only one seamer, and three specialist bowlers?
It would be a ballsy move i know

But 16/20 wickets in test one and so far 12/18 in test 3 tends to show that spinners are more threatening...

Unless india prepare a green track for the final test match lol

A asterisk needs to be placed against all tests against Australia in the recent past.
I don't disagree. This sort of match is not really going to benefit us or teach us that much. 'Flat pitches' being more ubiquitous doesn't mean it's okay to have surfaces like this.

i keep forgetting i've forgiven tahir for his antics after he trolled australia with "cramps"

there he goes having a make out session with some grass on slow motion replay.

Fifer for Tahir. Excellent trolling by him.

EDIT: Probably best bowling by an SA spinner in India, I would guess. Think only SA spinner to take a fifer in India was Boje in 2000.
