On the one hand it's a bit of a mirage, she's not the #1 doubles player (it's probably Serena) But it seems like India needs a voice like Mirza's?

Time for Nadal to wake up as well. Expecting a solid run.

well yeah serena is the greater doubles player of course, so is venus and hingis and there are probably others as well, based on her recent results, she is now ranked no: 1, the first indian woman to be ranked no: 1 in a global sport...that is the significance...

And backs it up. What is this even.

Somehow got myself excited for Netherlands-Australia, Germany-Russia and Czechs-France in Fed Cup. Oops.
(Also Hingis is going to play singles in Poland)

Yeah should be fun.

Genie Bouchard though, weirdly hilarious douchebaggery.

Novak should make a statement tonight. He needs to dominate Rafa. If he wins comfortably Rafa will have some serious doubts about Roland Garros. If Rafa wins the whole thing flips on its head.

Meh, he won Monte Carlo in 2013 and Rome last year but lost to Rafa in Paris both times. Maybe if it's a thrashing it makes a real statement, but I've learned to sort of accept that they're fair game in the Masters but five sets in Roland Garros is a different prospect. Not that he can't do it of course, especially given their respective forms, but I don't think it's that big in terms of the French.

You're right, but this is totally different imo because of Rafa's mindset and form on clay. This is the first time this far away from the French Open Novak is favourite, and Rafa has been losing to hack after hack. A 2 and 3 or something is big imo.

Rafa's confidence on clay the lowest in ages.

Jesus this is so good already. This 7th game is ridiculous tennis. Would kill to be there, fans loving it. Plus Jelena's in the house.

Novak running away with this now. He's just better.

Apparently it had been 262 matches on clay since Nadal had gone in as underdog!

Clay is probably his best surface tbh. It's just that he's played in the era of the best ever on the surface. Gap between him and the rest of the field is huge and Nadal is the only one who you think could beat him in a five setter. Sure you can forgive me not writing Nadal off yet mind.

Good that Bouchard lost. That handshake thing was bs. You can still shake someone's hand without wishing good luck ffs

Yeah, it's a really odd thing to make a stand on particularly in Fed Cup when the whole point of the ceremony is showing the unity between the two countries and they have a meal and then play tennis. It's not just insulting your opponents, but the country too, and actually how does it make Canada look as hosts. It's just really bizarre, and pig-headed. Her team looked embarrassed. Yet then if you behave like a brat you may get away with it by winning, but then losing to someone who hasn't beaten a top 10 player in 4 years, makes you look an utter moronic failure.

Tennis is really good when it comes to sportsmanship as well, players applauding great shots in big matches, being really gracious in victory/defeat etc, so it really sticks out like a sore thumb.

Looking forward to the French Open this year as Nadal isn't necessarily going to win. Admittedly if he doesn't Djokovic almost certainly will - but never mind.
