Come on Berdych put up a fight today. Please don't be bagelled like you have been on your last 2 attempts at beating Novak.

haha it is indeed ridiculous
I kind of admire her being a top 20 player so long without a serve, but if she won a slam it would be pretty embarrassing, but that's not going to happen. Even though famously she made a final before being crushed.

Looks like Germany are going to pull it back to 2-2, going with the brilliant tactic of playing your best players. Revolutionary, hope it doesn't catch on.

Just saw the odds for the Monte Carlo final. No Masters 1000 final should have the favourite shorter than $1.10  Ludicrous, but you can't really argue I guess. Novak looks impenetrable.

lol. What was up with no Petko in the first rubbers?
No-one knows, Rittner said it was jet-lag and the other 2 had turned up earlier. Umm, yes they did that because they were knocked out of the previous tournament, because they're not as good, Barbara. As much as I love Julia, for umm reasons, I'd have a Petko who hadn't slept for a week over her, I'm afraid. Lisicki's shown some form recently, but on clay? Still she nearly won, but that just shows how poor Pavs has been playing recently, and she looks really out of shape. Wasted talent there. She's such a great ball-striker.

Haha Berdych knows he needs to swing from the hips all match and just try and make every shot. He's going ultra aggressive and its awesome to watch but he's going to miss so many as well. Needs to accept the errors because he basically needs to play 120 minutes of superman tennis.

Pretty unlucky for Berdych. He's been really good the last few months though. Probably a decent outside bet for Wimbledon at 25/1.

Novak won the first, lost the second and won the third in all 3 of his Masters 1000 victories this year. Honestly he is the best deciding set tennis player I've ever seen I reckon.

Meanwhile he's made history by being the first ever player to win the first 3 Masters 1000s back to back to back. FREAK

Really hoping that at least one of Robson or Watson can be free of illness and injury. They both have semi-final possibilities in the current standard of the women's game if they can drag their fragile frames onto the court regularly.

Nothing wrong with the current standard of the women's game, they're stronger, fitter and in general hit the ball so much harder. This anti-evolutionary view in any sport kind of annoys me.

Anyway, Watson will never be that good, but yes Laura could be, she's got serious game on her day, but 15 months out is worrying.

There's been a lot of less than great players winning Grand Slams in recent years. It's not a bad thing and preferable to the same two players winning everything, but there are holes there for a talented player like Robson (and I also believe Watson) to fill. They're not alone by any means. Madison Keys has all the shots............and a decent pair of knockers.

This is a remarkable because he won the first five he played in 2011 but missed Monte Carlo through injury. Also moves level with Roger for 1000 titles, just 4 behind Nadal now.

In the last couple of years I can only think of Bartoli, there's always been odd winners on occasions, Martinez, Majoli, and let's not talk about the 70s mess.

Anyway, I like Heather a lot as a person, but I struggle to think of any big shots she has, I actually hope I'm wrong, and who knows how glandular fever can effect a person, maybe she will find consistency soon.

The one thing about tennis on both tours is how people are definitely maturing later than they once did. Only one slam winner on both tours born in the 90s, go back 10 years and I think there would have had about 13 born in the 80s on both tours. Oh that was a bit like stats I feel dirty. So there's certainly a chance people can mature later, unlike in the past where if you hadn't won a slam at 22 you were pretty much never going to.

I was thinking along the lines of Schiavone. Li Na and Stosur all this decade. These days the girls aren't allowed on the tour at 14/15 so they mature later and (hopefully) last longer. One of the great disappointment of my tennis following years was the premature demise of Austin and Jaegar which left Navratilova and Evert playing in (what seemed like) every Grand Slam final.

Well I think Li Na was good in the end. Yet we're in agreement on this largely, early burn-out of players was so frustrating back then, and it did leave the fields rather weak for those big beasts. More people competing until later in their careers can only be a good thing. It happened in Mens tennis as well really, Becker, Chang, Edberg, Wilander, Courier all stopped winning around mid-twenties (Beckers oz Open win a bit of an anomaly after prodigious starts.

It really isn't good for mind or body, and I'm very glad that era has ended. Look at Capriatis madness before she came back to be pretty decent, but still many wasted years.

Oh and if Bouchard loses to Mitu of all people this maybe the funniest thing ever.
