Lets not get too excited about Elliott just yet. Yes they're a brilliant lower order and Elliott is in the form of his life but if Cairns, Oram, McCullum (McMillan and Styris too) were at the height of their career in the current game, I think we'd see something similar.

This is a great NZ team but I don't think it's our stand out best.

I'm mostly salivating at Anderson + Ronchi batting records... just. wow.

12 according to Tony Veitch on radio sport. Obvs wasn't the case, all hail King Francis.
Whats the bet they just checked how many run outs Taylor and Williamson had in matches involving one another rather than actual partnerships.

The team feels complete. Ignore the fact that Guptill is struggling now and focus on his career record.. What's NZ's weakness? Spin? Vettori should do well enough. Lower order? Elliott, Ronchi, Anderson are way better than anything NZ had before. Not to mention the Big 3 at the top and the pace attack.

The only thing better mid-2000s was Bond.. A bowler that struck fear on the opposition. But there is barely any bowler like that in ODI cricket anymore.

If NZ don't get to the finals this time I would consider it a failure. Another semifinal doesn't cut it.
Such a virya thing to say -- "ignore your eyes, just look at the stats"

Thats also a pretty easy thing to say, but you can also look at other players who have had a year or two of poor form and have come good again.

Guptill is smashing it domestically, it seems like this is more a mental barrier on the international stage than his game having regressed any.

Guptill Haters please note: This does not mean his game does not have gaping holes in it, rather he can still succeed with the tools he has at the international stage when he is in form and playing his natural game.*

*smashing it over the bowlers head while not looking at it, like the cool guy he is

I rate it highly, but the other ODI teams being weaker than in previous cups overall has added to our hype a bit. Bond, Astle, Cairns etc wouldn't get that with Ponting's Australian team around for example.

Missed Guppy's 1st baller. Ugly shot or just really good delivery?
Bit of both. If it was the 12th ball he faced we'd all be shouting at him for being hopeless. Brilliant first ball. Came back in a little.

Guptill possibly hit it too, it was .01 seconds so hard to tell but the commentary team reckoned he edged it.
