Our 2000s sides were awesome but the bowling had gaping holes. In 2007 we were struggling for two quicks to partner Bond and Oram since Mills was injured so we had Gillespie, Franklin and Mason. In 2003 we had Bond, Cairns and Tuffey but again we were looking for one more quick so rotated through Ian Butler and Andre Adams.

In 2003 we couldn't decide on an opening partner for Astle either.

KW, Taylor and modern Baz are a level above most of their former heroes. I'd put Astle, Cairns, Bond and Styris in this side but not the others. Maybe wicketkeeper Baz but it would be brutal on Ronchi.

Our best team was probably around 2009. Baz, Jesse, Guppy, Ross, Elliott, Styris, Oram, Vettori, Mills, Southee, AN Other. 2011 WC side also looks gun in retrospect.
Pretty sure we got as high as 2nd in the rankings around 2009 (or maybe it was 3rd). I remember Vettori has an excellent win/loss record after the first 2 years of taking over from Flem.

That only went for six because it kept going upwards. Good chance of it being dropped even if it didn't make it because the fielder waiting would get bored.

Oh ****.

Time to boot Baz from the com box, he's been excellent to listen to but cost us 2 wickets in 10 mins now.

It's great to see that the fast bowlers Sri Lanka didn't pick in their WC squad are doing so well.
There's a clip around with Arjuna Ranatunga blasting the selectors for ****ing up the WC squad selection... he says this in front of Aravinda and a couple other former cricketers who I think are in the selection committee. Can't say I blame him.

It'll be interesting to see who they call up now if Malinga is ruled out. Eranga would've been very short odds before today.
I think it should be Eranga.. Chameera is tempting but a bigger gamble and if he ends up getting spanked SL will still have to bowl his 10 overs out.. Even today he's going at ~7/over - I don't think you can expect anything different from a newbie express bowler.

Why? Sri Lanka have two fantastic allrounders.
