also to be totally honest i was a bit disappointed that India missed those chances late on 'cause really, their fielding was pretty damn solid for the first 450 runs. from what i saw anyway
Might have seemed that way because we created like 2 chances in the first 450 runs tbh.

Ahead of Harris and Johnson?? He's having a laugh mate......
We have a crop of really good fast bowlers (when they're not breaking down that is) sitting in the wings waiting for johnson and harris to finish running amok.

We do not have any batsmen nearing the same class as clarke except for smith and warner.

So yeah stamp him down permanently.

This time four years ago it looked as if the game was in legitimate trouble. Along with a few other sports like tennis and rugby, it was struggling to acclimate to the changing environment created by the Australian rules football juggernaut. But like tennis (which pulled the trigger a little earlier), it has responded, driven new initiatives and adapted. It's great to see.

I think they've been surprised by the immediacy of the response, but it makes sense if you think about it. Cricket just fits the Aussie lifestyle like a glove. Open spaces, wide blue skies, hot summers, great beach activity too. They've taken and made it more accessible, more inclusive, and that's all they needed to do.

The participation rates between cricket and Aussie rules are very close. The last report from the AFL has participation at 938,000 (cricket 1.1 million). When you consider its heartland is only half the country, that gives an idea of how astonishingly popular it is in those markets. It is growing super fast in Queensland and NSW too - it's threatening rugby league's participation rate in QLD now, which is astounding really.

Thing about cricket is it is footy's sibling sport. The latter was invented so cricketers could stay fit in the winter. Kids play both. Both look healthy and both are growing. Very happy for cricket in particular to be reasserting itself as part of our cultural fabric.

Don't forget that when a team is a little vulnerable that new talent has a chance to shine. Not so much when they're very vulnerable like Allan Border's era when you could fail all day long and still get a run. Upcoming batsmen have a good working example to work from and potentially vacant opportunities to move into....time will tell

You just edited your post but i wouldnt underestimate the importance of rising female participation in cricket. Really helped drive youth soccer forwards.

AFL is definitely still a threat to cricket. The best of the best arent able to play two sports anymore and cricket has Been losing on that front ( i think.

The big advantage that cricket has over AFL, in my opinion, is the status of the australian cricket team as the National team. Union used to have the Wallabies as the national football team, but as that mantle began to slip so did the code.

Furthermore, cricket really doesnt have much competition for summer. The Basketball fad has worn off. CA has the perfect storm to push ahead though. Ashes, India, World Cup and Ashes again.

They might do a alot of dumb things, but those numbers speak for themselves.

That was the exception rather than the norm. There is no two ways in that the Indian performance so far has been terrible.

7/520 is most definitely the norm for us first dig at Adelaide. I mean you've bowled really really badly but you did take a bunch of wickets with the new ball so you might do okay on pitches which aren't Adelaide.

(you probably won't though)

It hasn't just been Adelaide though. The Indian bowlers have been inconsistent with lines and have gone for 5 an over. On any pitch, you won't get much if you bowl like that.

Nah, it really wasn't. Adelaide is crazy.

India's actually bowling has been poor, but the score is pretty par for the course in terms of first innings efforts in Adelaide.
It used to be even more extreme before the drop-in. Teams would do pretty well in the first session then hit the Ponting-Clarke-Hussey brick wall. I don't think Adelaide is as objectively roady as 550-average-first-dig makes it out to be (it has too much bounce) but those three have/had stupid records here.
