It's certainly worth a discussion though. Not a perfect example, but Pakistan did win all 3 Tests they won the toss in and didn't win any of the two they didn't in the UAE recently. So it's clearly a distinct advantage - how you'd eliminate it, or even if you need to, is another question.
They won the toss and batted first in the third test and lost by an innings.

Bastard. I spent a good 10 minutes surmising that post.

Let's chalk that Test up to being an extraordinary circumstance that negated the toss, and all agree the theme of my post was strong even if my fact checking was ****house.

520/7 may be par for Adelaide but India's batting isn't going to get anywhere close to that against Mitch.

Needed an above average showing with the ball here; the fact that it has been so terrible is depressing, even if the scoreline doesn't represent it.

I still support letting the away team choose whether to bat or field first in all Tests. It'd certainly discourage curators from preparing what we consider now to be toss-dependent wickets.

Shows Ryan Harris highlight reel.

Doesn't show his greatest delivery ever.

Good job channel nine.

It works a lot of the time but Sri Lanka choosing to bat first against Bangladesh in Bangladesh is probably the most disgusting thing ever.

This this this. One of my main gripes with cricket.

Agreed, away teams need all the help they can get. With the exception of South Africa home advantage is massive in world cricket at the moment and is making many contests very one-sided.

I don't, with the caveat that this can only lead to flat pitches. The day of the green seamer would be well and truly as dead as the dodo.

I don't particularly have a problem with the winner of the toss having an advantage, it just shouldn't be exacerbated by teams having to gamble on their composition.
