Maybe, but he wasn't in NZ and NZ away is probably tougher than India and SL at home.

Prior was still awesome though. Hard to say how we would've done if he'd dropped catches and scored no runs.
Yeah I was thinking of the home Ashes too though.

Anyway, hopefully this is all part of Cook's master plan to tire Bhuvi so that his opening spell lacks potency and along with Robson he can lead us to victory without loss.

Yeah, I don't really know how to think about that series though. Australia were kind of better for the most part, they just had lollapses occasionally which meant they lost matches.

He's obviously a huge miss though. He and Prior probably the MVP's from England's golden era.

And Cook, Trott, Bell, Pietersen, Anderson, Broad...

Yeah it's hard to pick out one player. They've all horribly declined. You had a while when Bell, Cook, Broad, Anderson, Prior, Swann hit top form at exactly the same time, and now they've done the opposite. And Swann's even packed it in.

Yeah the thing about Prior is his seemingly permanent decline has been so sudden and unexpected.

Since I wasn't following the build-up, is there any reason why Ashwin isn't playing? Is he injured?

Not really. If Cook had a slump than there'd always be Bell, Trott, KP etc. to pick up the slack. Same with either of Broad or Anderson to an extent (less so Anderson but think of Broad in the Ashes). Prior and Swann were the only players in their particular discipline and were arguably the best in the world at that discipline for a while. They were probably the main difference between us and a pre 2012 South Africa as well, who had a few awesome batsman and seamers but Boucher had become average and Paul Harris/Imran Tahir....
