Well with Dhoni at 6 there's no reason not to play both. Surely they don't lose a lot of batting by including Ashwin instead of Binny.

Although it might just be that the current selection is a mess for so many reasons that lots of changes would be an improvement, and I'm picking up on a sub-optimal one.
Binny shouldn't really be playing, especially given how Bhuvi is batting at 9. But I'm not sure whether it should be Ashwin or a seamer that comes in instead.

Nah, come on. We won series really well when Bell and Broad were injured in 2010. That was because we had multiple players performing at world class levels in similar roles. Not sure you can say them being injured had the same impact that Swann not playing or Prior morphing into 2014 Prior would've had.

Broad missed the Bangladesh series, for 'strength and conditioning' and then returned to face a Pakistan side who were on the take. Bell missed that series, and granted he should probably be glad he did as it was a bad series for batsmen, but come on now that was a joke summer of Test Cricket, hence us only playing six Tests and squeezing in ODIs v the filth

Oh yeah, Binny playing is obviously pretty ridiculous, but as Cabinet pointed it, it doesn't necessarily mean Ashwin should be the replacement -- you could make good arguments for another batsman or another seamer as well.

Robson doesn't inspire much confidence does he. Really think an aggressive player (or more aggressive at least) like Lyth would really help change our style of cricket.

India picking four seamers? How long have I been away?
Have ti pick more than usual in the hope two perform.

I'd say it should be Ashwin > Sharma >>> Seamer.
Rohit also an option so Dhoni doesn't have to kid himself batting at 6
Wouldn't Rohit make it a stupidly long batting lineup? I know that's no bad thing really, but I feel they'd probably be better off squeezing another bowler in there.

Was thinking of the 10/11 Ashes, were Broad missed the last three tests but Tremlett and Bresnan cam in and destroyed it.

And better bowler too. Ashwin should've doubtless played if we were going go with a 3+1 attack.
Nah, Sir Jadeja is better bowler overseas right now. And up there at Home on turners too recently. Better bowler these days than people give him credit for.

In a 4 man attack where seamers are gonna be attacking then Jadeja can atleast keep it tight and get through plenty of overs quick and be a partnership breaker until the wicket deteriorates if it does for thespinner. Ashwin barely picked many more wickets either or looked like picking them.

Beefy has worked out that Cook's problems are that none of his players are performing. ****ing A cricketing mind that bloke.

None apart from Robson, Ballance, Root, Ali and even Stokes and Plunkett have done ok. It the senior men who are letting the side down this summer.

Ishant running down the pitch is such bull. Makes the pitch worse and the only penalty that can happen is he gets kicked out of the attack, which doesn't help England either.
