Ahh. Isn't that an utterly insane decision? Or am I missing something?Nah, has just fallen out of favour with the selectors overseas

He's been utterly ineffective with the ball in the tiny sample of overseas tests he's played, while Jadeja has had some limited success I supposeAhh. Isn't that an utterly insane decision? Or am I missing something?
He got dropped for Jadeja in South Africa after he took no wickets in the first Test, South Africa batted 136 second innings overs to save the match and his away average ballooned up to about 70. Jadeja promptly took six wickets in the first innings of the next Test to give himself a run as India's overseas spinner; he hasn't really backed up those efforts so far but Ashwin's away record had become so bad that he'll probably get a little run it from here regardless.Since I wasn't following the build-up, is there any reason why Ashwin isn't playing? Is he injured?
Finn also took plenty of poles even if he was expensive.A player isn't more valuable just because there is only one of them
Unless they are a ***y all rounder from the north west
The reason we were so good for that period is because all the guys I named plus the two you named were in prime form together. The only weaknesses were a number six and third seamer, but even then you had Tremlett/Brezza gunning it for a while
Yeah fair point, fat old bitter **** likes his multi faceted playersGiven there isn't a huge deal to split them Jadeja is a much better field so that might make the difference to Fletcher in particular.
Yeah but the two great away wins (I know the India win came kind of after the peak of the side) were built on Cook scoring a stupid amount of runs.Not really. If Cook had a slump than there'd always be Bell, Trott, KP etc. to pick up the slack. Same with either of Broad or Anderson to an extent (less so Anderson but think of Broad in the Ashes). Prior and Swann were the only players in their particular discipline and were arguably the best in the world at that discipline for a while. They were probably the main difference between us and a pre 2012 South Africa as well, who had a few awesome batsman and seamers but Boucher had become average and Paul Harris/Imran Tahir....
Despite today's innings Ashwin is a better batGiven there isn't a huge deal to split them Jadeja is a much better field so that might make the difference to Fletcher in particular.
Nah, come on. We won series really well when Bell and Broad were injured in 2010. That was because we had multiple players performing at world class levels in similar roles. Not sure you can say them being injured had the same impact that Swann not playing or Prior morphing into 2014 Prior would've had.A player isn't more valuable just because there is only one of them

@cab
Yeah, but what about England's pattern. Something's got to give.Wouldn't surprise me if Cook chose this moment to troll us. We're losing this by 3-4 wickets if things follow the pattern of the last 2 years.
Oh look that the cat dragged in. **** doesn't post all test and then his crush shows up so he's here with an essay. Well with Dhoni at 6 there's no reason not to play both. Surely they don't lose a lot of batting by including Ashwin instead of Binny.He got dropped for Jadeja in South Africa after he took no wickets in the first Test, South Africa batted 136 second innings overs to save the match and his away average ballooned up to about 70. I agree, but I'm not sure its a giant difference. Think Ashwin is a good bat but he isn't a top 7 player.Despite today's innings Ashwin is a better bat
And better bowler too. Ashwin should've doubtless played if we were going go with a 3+1 attack.Despite today's innings Ashwin is a better bat
