With the way Bell is currently playing he could be slotting in as a specialist batsman.

I dunno about him being captain but I wanted Foster in at the start of the year, nothing much as changed my mind.
Prior is just gone, can't see any way back. He may bat okay at times, but his confidence with the gloves is shot. In the end he had a great middle-part of his career when he worked really hard at his glovework, and he should be praised for that. Yet he wasn't a natural 'keeper, and now his reflexes/fitness has gone, it's time to say goodbye.

It's more the situation it creates than the quality of the player. Germon wasn't terrible, but guys brought in as a specialist skipper from test one have huge pessure on them to earn the respect of the team, get the team going well, cement their place, learn how to deal with the pressures of being a test player and captain at the same time....
it's just a **** place to be. Germon wasn't helped by being perceived as the coaches pet either.

If I've ever given that impression I can only say I've been under a lot of pressure lately.
& by "under a lot of pressure" I mean drinking more than usual, obvz.
Seriously tho, Cook's patently a thoroughly decent chap, but he's not a natural captain. No disgrace in that, a lot of better players than him have wilted under the armband's constricting pressure too.
As for the ECB? Jesus, I seriously don't think I've ever once praised them except in a "well, at least they're not the BCCI" damning with the faint variety. Giles Clarke couldn't look more of a **** if he had a strip of pubes on his forehead and appearances aren't decpetive in his case.

Beat me to it. I'm confidently expecting the change of skipper to transform Broad & Anderson into the epitome of McGrathesque accuracy.

Well at least he's been willing to remove one of the openers after 30 minutes instead of the mandatory 75 mins that they get under Cook. And credit Stokes for making the batman play all 6 in his first over. Shouldn't be such a big deal, but these are impoverished times.
